12/24/09

Hello to all,

Ok so this week has been crazy for me. First we had Elder Amado from the quorum of the seventy come and speak to us. That was really cool and I learned so so much doctrinally and spiritually. Then on Tuesday we had a missionary Christmas party which was really really fun. I got to see and talk with Elder Marshall a lot so that was really great. Also this week I feel I have learned a lot about dealing people that really get on your nerves!!! Lol just kidding my companion is fine. I sat down with him the other day and just had a nice heart to heart conversation with him and we starting to work more and more so hopefully everything will work out there (thanks Bruce)

so now the sentence that mom is just absolutely dying to read...should I write it...I don’t know if your ready...should I really...ok mom...take a deep breath...are you ready...I don’t think you are ready...ok...here it is...I got my package. Lol yes I got it and I must say it was a little over the top...perfect! Lol thanks so much really! Next Christmas I don’t think you need to send quite so much though lol. Thank you all for your letters. As I was reading them I could really feel like I was in your life’s and could really feel your love. I opened it today because tomorrow is just a regular day except for my 40 minute phone call (!!!!!!!)

So Christmas here is...different. Lol I can hardly tell a difference. People here just celebrate different I guess but it doesn’t seem as big. I guess cause to me Christmas time is so much about family.

Anyways spiritual thought!

Christmas is a time of giving gifts, and as such I would like to talk about the greatest gift ever given. The Atonement of Jesus Christ. The Atonement of Jesus Christ includes his suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, his death on the cross, and his resurrection 3 days later. There is so much doctrine in the atonement that it is impossible for the human mind to fully comprehend it, but what we do know is that thanks to this incomprihendable sacrifice, we can once again live with our heavenly father and our families forever. "For as in Adam all men die, even so in Christ, all are made alive" (Corinthians 15¨12) thanks to Jesus Christ we all have the opportunity to inherit the Kingdom of God and with that all that the father has. This gift however is conditional. We can only obtain these things as we obey the principles and gospel that Christ taught. Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the end. “Wish with the innermost part of my heart, with great anxiety even unto pain, that you would hearken unto these words."

The Gospel is perfect and for everyone. also those that are knew or know nothing of the Gospel, there is something special about the gospel, if one puts in his part, truly wanting and desiring to know, and studies out the doctrine, light and knowledge will be brought into your mind. Also one more think more important than that, you got to pray. He knows, it’s just silly not to ask.

Anyways I love you all! Have a merry Christmas!

Week of 12-14-2009

Hola familia,

Ok so I know you are all just dying to hear about my new area, companion, ward and all so I guess I will start with that.

My new area is Los Andes 1. Los Andes is the hottest part of Chile. Nice to be arriving here in summer lol. Our sector is huuuuge. So naturally I have a bike again! Lol the ward is great. There are not a lot of active members but that is why I am here. In the back yard of the ward there is a garden of trees. They have orange trees, lemon trees, peach trees, pretty much everything.

My companion...is a bean. Lol but seriously. His name is Elder Orellana and is from Chile. He is 21 and has a year and a half in the mission and I am leading him around and forcing him to be obedient. It’s all good though. I think the reason that I am with him is hopefully to help him.

Ok so this week was a roller coaster. In two days I popped three tires on my bike (thanks to nails) rolled my right ankle 3 times (that can’t be good) and am having to lead my "senior" companion around. Its all good though cause guess what...we had three baptisms! Lol oh the tender mercies of the Lord. Especially Sergio. Had a really awesome spiritual experience with him. Anyways the other two were Alejandro and Yaritza. So funny

Oh yeah another thing about our sector is that there is a jumbo in our sector! (American store!) I have been eating good. Lol

Anyways on to spiritual thought:

Ok so this morning I read a scripture that really stuck out to me and made me think about some of the things dad taught me a while ago. I was reading in 1nefi1:20 which reads:

20 And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance

The Lord sends “tender mercies” our way. He does it because He loves us and promised He would send the comforter and He himself would come unto us (John 14:16, John 14:18). His tender mercies are one of the important ways He shows us how much He loves us. We know that He atoned for the sins of all mankind and overcame physical death. We know that when we apply the atonement in our lives we can be freed from the burden of sin (PMG Chapter 3-Lesson 1 pg 32). But there is a second part to the Atonement which is “we can develop faith and strength to face our trials. I believe the Lord sends tender mercies in our life just at the right time to help us develop the faith and strength when we need it.

In a talk by David A Bednar we learn the definition of Tender Mercies "personal and individualized blessings, strength, protection, assurances, guidance, loving-kindnesses, consolation, support, and spiritual gifts which we receive from and because of and through the Lord Jesus Christ."

In verse 20 its says that tender mercies are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith. In other words, He chooses us because we choose Him because of our faith unto action in obeying Him and serving Him.

The Lord sends tender mercies to those that have faith in him. Oftentimes I feel as my dad does that there are tender mercies that the Lord gives us that we are not even aware of. My challenge to you this week is to think and reflect upon times in your life when you have received tender mercies from the Lord. Think if they have been from other people and think how you can be a tool in the Lords hand unto bringing about a tender mercy unto someone else.

Love you all so dearly,
Elder Fischer

Don’t have a lot of time seeing as how we had freaking changes today.

I am now here in Los Andes 1. It is about 2 hours outside of the city lol I am even further now. But its good the work here is suppose to be good so I am excited. I am not going to lie, it was really hard to leave Valle Grande. We went to go say goodbye to the Gonzolez family and I cried like a little girl. Also it was hard to leave Elder Marshall and our wonderful house. We got so so close.

Did I mention that we had a baptism this week to? I will try to send pics.

Anyways I really don’t have a lot of time for anything. I am going to have to send you guys my Christmas package next week so it will arrive late :( poocha

Love ya all and you are always in my prayers.

Week of 11-30-2009

Week of 11-30-2009

Lol hey fam,

This week has been awesome! I have never been more tired in my life. But equal, I have never been so happy to be so tired. We baptized the Gonzalez family this week! After the past two weeks I almost want to get baptized again myself lol. Just looking into their eyes as they leave the water and begin their new clean life is something amazing! Then as they stand there looking at the water with a sense of innocence and humility is just amazing.

Anyways sounds like everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Want to know how I spent mine? Peddling my bike 70000 miles! lol ok maybe not that much. It was good though. We worked all day so I really didn’t have that much of a problem with it, it was kinda weird. ha ha cleaning out granddaddy and mammaws huh? lol I am jealous of you really, I miss doing big projects like that. Mom believe it or not, I eat salads and asparagus and stuff like that everyday. I don’t mind it anymore! lol sounds like the turkey bowl was fun. That is something that I missed ALOT!!!!

hmmm, Christmas...what do I want...lets see...oh I know...shirts and pants...lol interesting huh. yeah it would be helpful if I could get a few more short sleeve shirts. Doesn’t matter what kind whichever is easier for you. also pants...I think I am growing a little but so they will need to be longer. hey if you can send me a pair of green pants or something! lol sorry mom I don’t know if you can wrap it or not.

Anyways we are going to spend our p-day working again it looks like. I wouldn’t have it any other way actually lol

let me know if there is anything I can do for you guys, love ya!

Week of 11-23-2009

Happy turkey day!!!!

Hey all! Wow what a roller coaster week! Ovies got baptized!!! Well I already told you this story a little bit last week so I have another story that I want to share

So the day before Ovies got baptized the sister missionaries had someone that needed to be interviewed so my companion interviewed him...he failed. Apparently he just needed a little more time to deal with something. But we were all surprised because this young man (Aiyun) was amazing! He had born his testimony several times and was always at church several times throughout the week. Anyways he was in the bathroom crying all by him so I went in to talk to him. I cracked a joke or two to cheer him up again then I told him to keep strong, I told him that the Lord has his timing in all things and that as long as he stayed strong then it would all work out. He had an interview the next day and was baptized on Sunday. It was an amazing baptism! Very emotional and he bore his testimony afterwards really strongly! He even sent me a shout out lol! So that’s my cool story for the week.

This week we are going to be working our butts off yet again. lol I love it! We are trying to baptize three other families right now for the next two weeks and we are going to do some above and beyond the call type of things...me likely! lol

Wow so thanksgiving is coming up and I can’t believe I’m not going to be home! I can’t believe I am going to miss the turkey bowl! Oh well. Zack fill me in on what happens. But seeing as how this is a big family holiday and we are all going to be apart I want to base my spiritual thought around that a little:

“In a Priesthood Leadership Meeting with Stake Presidents held right before a General Conference, President Harold B. Lee addressed the brethren in the Tabernacle. He called on one brother in the congregation, who was seated next to a big pillar that held up the balcony, to stand up. Then he asked him to push as hard as he could against the pillar and see if he could knock it over. The brother did as he was asked, and pushed, and pushed. But obviously he could not push it over. Then President Lee taught the following lesson, ‘Most of you think that the pillar is there holding up the balcony, but it is not. It is the other way around. It is the balcony that is holding the pillar firmly in place. The weight of the balcony stops the pillar from falling over. Our young missionaries are like that pillar. When they are out in the mission field they have the weight of the Kingdom on their shoulders, and they remain firm and faithful.”

Also this analogy relates to all of us this holiday season, although we are all going to be apart and missing each other just a little, I firmly believe that as we are doing what is right and what God asks of us, that God will be our balcony.

Also President May share an interesting thought in Zone Conference this past week. It was a story about Elder Bednar. He went to talk to a couple who had recently been married and the husband was diagnosed with very bad cancer. After visiting for a while the husband finally posed the statement "I think I have the faith enough to be healed." Elder Bednar responded as such- " I think the better question is do you have the faith not to be healed?" what we learn from this is that faith is not necessarily the ability or the power to do big or even small things, but rather the ability to have the strength and submissiveness to obey and do the Lords will. So to all of you today I pose this question: do you have the faith to submit to the Lords will?

Que Este bien!

Week of November 16, 2009

Hey to all from Chile!

This week has been another roller coaster! Especially with what we have done thus far for our p-day today. We went into the city to buy ties because mine are just getting nasty and I am getting bored of them. After we bought ties and ate we went down the street because there is a gigantic church there. So we went inside and wow the spirit just left. Like straight up I was scared. Anyways so now I am sitting in a 4 story gigantor Americanized mall writing you.

Wow Aunt Cathy is running for congress? ha ha legit! Tuff break Granddaddy you will make it through you always do. Still haven’t gotten granddaddy’s letter yet but hopefully tomorrow! Cathy I know you will do great!

Zack my man! I can’t believe you are dunking already...you jerk! lol wow we are really going to be the (DD) when I get back. You just got to go to SVU first right? Hey while you are studying for the test do the practice test online. The test really isn’t that hard if you are familiar with the questions.

Allie good luck in your game! You will do great! You always do! Keep up with the basketball and you will be able to ball with me and Zack. We will create a dynasty lol.

Mom you are seriously amazing. All that you do I mean really I don’t know how you do it for real. Hey, have you considered writing your book for the world, and with the Book of Mormon? missionary work! just a thought.

Dad my man, where you at dog? lol you sent me a nice long e-mail this week...ha ha how’s work? I can’t wait till I get back and you are all old and I can finally beat you at wrestling.

Mom I have been thinking about Christmas and I guess there are a few things that I would like. First off ties! I need ties! lol also some little device or tool to teach the plan of salvation would be really nice too. Just something for people to look at so that they can remember it easier. But really the only thing that I really want for Christmas is a letter from everybody along with an updated picture! Family, friends, who ever. Don’t stress out about it though mom I know you! Just whatever you can get really.

Spiritual thought:

Today I want to talk a little about Christ, (lol who would of thought? it’s not like its central to my purpose or anything) but I want to talk a little in the sense of repentance. If there is anyone reading this right now and has something they need to repent for and for some reason doesn’t want to or is scared or feels a little uneasy feel my words. I use the word feel because this is something very close to my heart just as all of you are.

Jesus Christ suffered for ALL of our sins. He didn’t suffer the sins for just those who accept him, he suffered for all. He is willing to forgive all and really wants to. He does not ask much of us. Repentance is not easy, never has been. But consider this, seeing as how our merciful Savior already suffered for our sins, why would we not confess them to him so he can forgive us? its not like he has to suffer more, he already suffered it, he knows how you feel, that is why he is so so willing to forgive you. In fact, it would be much much easier for him if we would just repent and come back to him. We will experience joy and more happiness as a child of God. So my point is, stop suffering, stop putting it off, if you need to repent do it, it will be easier on you and easier on our Savior. And I promise you that as you do these things that you will feel the Saviors love more in your life, you will have more happiness and you will feel more complete.

Sorry went off on little rampage there. Anyways another nice little update...I am baptizing this Saturday!!!!! Ovies and Bryon Younshin

We had to work our tales off but it is so so worth it, he is talking about wanting the priesthood, especially the spirit. We promised him his wife would follow his example...she is already asking him questions...ha ha! Also he already wants a calling!

chao!

2 weeks worth of Posts

Week of November 9th, 2009

Hola family!!!!

Wow what a crazy week!

First off bikes - dad you would be proud. lol we went to buy our bikes at a store that fixes up bikes. And there was one there that was practically new. He wanted 50 mil (100 dollars) yeah so I bargained him down to 35 mil (70 dollars) it has wide tires cause we go off road a lot. My companion tried to go the cheap route and bought one for 25 mil (50 dollars). But after we have fixed it up and every thing it cost 35 mil lol. And he still want s to fix it up more.

Don”t have a lot of time this week on the account that we are at an activity an hour and half away from Valle Grande! But one thing I want to say is how glad I am to be in the country here. I love just riding in the bus and looking at this beautiful country. It truly is a site to see.

Spiritual thought:

The basic but oh so important in my life "trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path."

I know I share this a lot but it is oh so important. This week we have been praying so so earnestly to be lead to the houses of those that are chosen. We found a lot of new people this week. What I have learned from this is that if we want to know something or need help it is plain silly not to ask our Heavenly Father, for He knows.

Chow love you lots,

Elder Fischer

Week of November 2nd, 2009

Hola familia!

Things are going great here! This week was kinda slow numbers wise but we are going to baptize for sure! Ovis y Byron Jounshin! An amazing story these two are. We were two seconds away from dropping them two weeks ago and now they are talking about wanting the priesthood and church callings! Also in a lesson they were worried because they wanted their wife and daughter to join too and we promised them that if they took the first step they would follow...they are already asking a lot of questions...ha ha gottem!

Spanish is coming great. Still struggle at times because the Chileans speak really fast and really bad (grammar and they don’t finish half their words) but it is coming. Sounds like Halloween was fun. I can’t believe that just one year after I leave nobody is going trick-or-treating...are you guys crazy? We even went trick-or-treating! lol I promise we were doing contacts! lol sounds like the haunted house was good. Dad...close one.

Allie-I got your letter in the package! that is awesome you made the team! You will do great! You are so athletic you can’t help it. I think you are the most athletic out of us all. Can’t wait till I get your next one!

Zack-ha ha strenuous work out program huh? I like it! You got to get big if you want to keep up with this! Wow you guys played flag football I am so jealous! Way to keep up the Fischer name and burn everyone out!

Britty/Bruce-lol nice babump! lol I loved the pictures and the message. You guys look like your doing great hang in their. Take care of my niece!

The past 7 weeks we have been fighting for bikes because we cover 3 different areas and take a bus 4 to 5 times a day and are burning through our own money and it is quite ridiculous. Well they had a meeting today and said that they weren’t going to buy us bikes but that we could buy them with our own money. And seeing as how I have already used ALL of my money I have I kind of need some...

My companion said he has never been in an area were he has had to spend half as much money as this. Don’t worry we have a plan. We are keeping all of our receipts and recording everything we buy and are going to take it all to the secretary at the end of the month so don’t worry it won’t last for long but I need money for bikes.

Spiritual thought: ok so I want to share something special that happened to me this week. We were traveling on the bus on the way back from one of our areas and we had had a hard time. We had several appointments fall through and we had pretty much wasted our time and money going there that day. so we were a little upset... lol but I was sitting there meditating and praying a bit and the spirit told me something that I could here plain as day, "It doesn’t matter what you do, just HOW you do it." this message hit me right in the heart. it truly doesn’t matter quite so much what we do, but rather how we do it. Look at Laman and Lemuel. They did all the things that Nephi did, they got the plates, traveled over the ocean, saw angels! But look at their attitude. Look how they did it. Look at the difference between the three! I received at that moment something that I feel can help us all out in our lives. Whatever you do, do it with love and charity, for that is how Christ did it.

I love you all and may the grace of our wonderful Lord be with you, Elder Fischer

10/26

Good morning to all – here is this week’s letter from Weston – attached is a picture of his zone compadres. Also – some people have been asking if they can email him so I asked and here is his response… I can receive and send off e-mails to other people. Its allowed in this mission! So tell them to bring it on! lol.

Hey all!
Ok so this week has been really interesting. We have dealt with someone who really wants to be baptized but has an argument with every principal and we cant seem to touch her heart so we went to try to drop her and we cant even do that lol. She wont let us. also we had a very nice gift come to us. We were tracting and a man came up to us and said he liked our religion, wanted to be baptized, and HE asked US if we could give him a Book of Mormon to read...yesssss! lol

Ok some info about the area I realize that some of you have some questions. Ok so we are in a brand new area that missionaries have never set foot in. There are two members but they won’t work with us which really slows things down but we’ll manage. We do attend a branch but it is 35 minutes away by bus. For this reason it is hard to get people to church but there are chosen people here. Also our area covers like three areas so we travel a lot and we are in the process of getting bikes right now. Yes we are in the country and mom if you look it up, look up Valle Grande not big valley. And it has only been here for two years so I still don’t know if you will be able to see it.

Don’t really have a lot of time this week so now on to the spiritual thought.

This week I wish to talk about the B.O.M. there is a power in the BOM that I think sometimes we do not realize and I have seen it so in my work here. (Granddaddy I am pretty sure I got you beat in handing them out :) ) No bad man could right this book and no good man could write it if it weren’t true. In this wonderful powerful book we can find comfort, peace, answers, and all kinds of inspiration. I advise all to read this book often. If you have a doubt, it’s in the BOM. I promise you with all my heart it the answer is in there. It contains the fullness of the gospel and all who read it will gain an increased desire to repent, be better and come unto Christ. So this week when you are bored and really feel like just sitting down and spend your personal time watching TV, spend your personal time doing something that is actually personal and read the BOM. May the grace of our almighty savior be with you all,

till next week, chow!

8/19

Hey everbody!

yeah hopefuly i will get that package tomorrow! lol things in chile have really been up and down lately lol. its a little tough opening up a new area (im still dry) but it is also truely a blessing. i have learned so so much about the work. also we have like 10 people with baptisimal dates for the 9th of november so hopefully they won´t all fall through lol. actually i have a lot of faith in one of our investigators. his name is fabian and he is 13 years old and he is like obsorbing the BOM! ha ha its great. he is always so excited for us to give him another chapter to read in the BOM and he is learning so much from that. just think how much we would learn everyday from the BOM if we all had this attitude.

chile update: ok something that is funny first. all that we drink down here is juice, so we go all day drinking nothing but juice and walk around all day. so you can imagine that by the end of the day i am dancing my pants off because i have to go so bad and since its all juice it is really hard to wait. but the good thing is is that it actually serves as a useful tool. we greet someone and if we feel that they might listen to us if we can get into their house we simply ask if we can use the bathroom. since the people are usually willing to help here we get in. then while the other is using the bathroom we just "casually bring up the gospel. lol it really works sometimes. also another thing that is interesting here is how obsessed everyone is with shoes, and sunglasses. wow every corner and ever other store! ha ha it reminded me of spencer. what is spencers address by the way? also i don´t think i have andrews either. mom could you locate them for me please?

ok spiritual thought:

this week as i have mentioned has neen a little rough as i have mentioned for various reasons. one thing that happened that has built up my testimony is that we passsed by someones house, gave them a lesson and left. the next day we returned and the grandpa of the family had died. they didnt want to talk to us that day so we returned the next day to teach them the plan of slvation. this is what i want to focus my thought on today. How glorious and how merciful is our God. for so loved us that he provided us with this wonderful plan. it brings me much peace of mind to know that when our loved ones pass away that the place they go to is to live with our loving heavenly father. they are not simply dead, but it is my belief that they are more alive than ever in christ their redeemer and their God. Sometimes these things are hard to deal with. when we lose our loved ones it is hard because we cannot see them or touch them. but here is what we should all remember, we have a savior. Jesus christ walked the path completely and utterly alone so that we don´t have to. he suffered for us, died, and then rose again. thanks to the great mercy of christ we can return to live with our loved ones not just once again, but once again for eternity. my heart goes out to all those who may have lost someone close here recently. i know it is hard but just remember that our God is an awesome God and as we are found doing the things he has commanded us, we shall inherit the kingdom of God. May the grace of our Lord Jesus christ be with you all,

Elder Fischer

8/12

Hey all!

Ok Chile update and info for the week - Saturday night here was crazy! The reason being is that Chile beat Colombia and qualified to go to worlds next summer so literally everyone was in the streets going crazy. Also something I thought Dad, Zack and Jeff might find interesting is that the people here are like crazy about tennis too. Don't get me wrong they are way crazier about soccer but if it's not soccer its tennis.

Mom also it would be cool to have like a little basketball hoop for our door or a football or something like that for the package. Yeah I finally got the letters last Tuesday. They both got here the same day so I don't know which is faster. I haven't seen a ups mom so I don't think that would work.

The work again was a little slow this week. But Elder Marshall and I have decided to do something that I think will really help us a great deal so we are super excited and determined now to go out and get this show on the road.

Spiritual thought:

As I have been down here I have become more and more aware of the powers and influence of satan, and I am going to tell you right now he's a tricky little bugger lol. But in all seriousness he is real. He does not normally come at us with the big things either. He works sneaky and slowly. " 2 Nephi 26:22 (yes Zack vs. 22) says that he starts with a smal string that in time turns into strong cords that bind us forever. This is how satan works. he gets us to think oh its ok I can do this small thing, and he starts a little tiny string that we can break easily. But as we continue to just do these "small things" then he continues to tie strings around us till they become unbreakable cords that he will use to control us. So my message to you all this week is to not let satan trick you into doing the "small things" for in time, they will not be so small. May the grace of our Lord be with you,

Till next time my friends,
Elder Fischer

Hey family!

How is everyone doing? Still haven’t received your letters lol. Hopefully tomorrow. My companion is good. He really teaches me a lot about the brain work of the mission and the things that work best here. We get along really well. He is really funny. One cool thing is that he played football for a year at Dixie football before his mission as a corner. He is tiny though ;) lol the only problem is I feel sometimes that he is not exactly obedient or that he is here for the same reasons as me. But I love him and we get a lot done together so it’s all good in the hood.

Wow congrats sis! a girl! ha ha I told you ;) anyways I can’t wait to get pictures of you and your baby belly! How are you guys doing? Shoot me off an e-mail or something.

Ok so now its time for a little Chile preview. The food here is amazing! I mean wow if we ate more than two meals a day here I would be gaining like crazy lol. Especially the ice-cream. I don’t know what is different about it but wow its good lol. Dad you would be jealous about this but everyone year loves ping pong! Ha ha most people have a table it’s kind of funny. The people hear are so nice and most will talk to you. The only problem is that they are really lazy and don’t always want to go to church and it ways in PMG that if they don’t go to church they will not get baptized.

The name of the area that me and my companion are opening up is called Valle Grande and oh man it is grand lol. Also it is so beautiful! We finally moved into our apartment Friday and it is so much better than sharing with other missionaries. We have to travel by bus everywhere which kind of is no fun but it gives me a good opportunity to practice my Spanish by talking with people. Yeah we have lunch appointments. She is a good cook.

I can’t wait to hear from the BYU gang. Tell them to shoot me off an e-mail or two. Sounds like they are doing great and having a good time. I knew they would.

Oh yeah we definitely got to watch conference down here and even in English! Lol I have never been o involved in conference before it was awesome. Yes mom elder Holland’s talk was very legit. He is definitely my favorite followed by a close uctdorf. After it was over for the first time in my life instead of oh yes thank goodness it was sad because I wanted more lol.

This weeks work was kind of sad, we had some people fall through. One was especially disappointing because we had tow wonderful ladies progressing beautifully and ready to be baptized and the husband all of a sudden goes crazy on us and won’t allow us to meet with her. But that is a part of the work sometimes and we will continue to pray for them and there dad. We are so optimistic and ready to get back out there this week and bring more souls unto Christ.

Ok so since like half of the conference talks were on love and charity I think that’s what my spiritual thought will be on today.

In first Corinthians 13:1 we read that when we speak not with charity our voices are like the sound of a tinkling symbol and do not have much affect. But when we do speak with charity our voices are like the sound of a trump of which we learn in chapter 14 is what prepares men to battle. And yes we are in a battle right now. A battle against Satan to bring souls back to our heavenly father. Then in D and C we read that when we preach with the sound of a trump we are declaring the truth like unto angels of God. So what I take from this is that in our missionary work we can either not speak with charity and have little effect or we can speak with charity and preach with like the powers of the angels. One other scripture, in Colossians 3:14 we are told that above ALL things put on charity, which is the "bond of perfectness". We are commanded to strive to be as much like Christ as possible, Christ was perfect. May the grace of our Lord be with you all,

Till next week,
Elder Fischer

Hola From Chile

Sorry to all but I was not able to write any letters last week but I will write some today sorry I don't know how long it will take to get there. Also my first baptism is scheduled for the 11 of October and we have several planned afterwards. Can't wait to get wet!

Ok my spiritual thought will be short today on the account that I may or may not have gotten carried away playing ball with the other elders and might just about be out of time lol.

I will start with a story,
Yesterday it was raining and was super cold! I could see my breath at 4:00 in the afternoon and it only got colder. So we did what missionaries do and we went tracting! lol I loved it, we were colder than (fill in one of dads ridiculous phrases) but it was actually one of our better days because since the people here in Chile are just so incredibly nice, when they open the door and see us freezing they let us in so we stuck 5 people with baptismal dates! ha ha it was great. I think it worked so well one because I would share my testimony that we were out tracting in the rain in a foreign country because of our solid testimony of this truth and two because we were obedient. We could have been like oh I don't feel like traveling an hour today and standing out in the rain and made up whatever excuses we wanted. but I have learned that any excuse, no mater how valid the reason, is simply a lack of character. Yeah sure this life can be hard and sure at times we are going to be asked to do things that are really outside of our comfort zone, but if we obey with willing hearts and helpful hands the Lord will bless us with spiritual treasures untold and unimaginable to the natural man. I testify this to you and promise you this as an authorized missionary of Jesus Christ. Those are not light words.

I must obey

Oh yeah one more REALLY important thing...I love you guys! you are all in my prayers and I cannot wait until we are together again.

yo se que solomente mediante Jesuchristo que nosotros podemos estar junto para siempre.

I know that only through Jesus Christ that we can be together forever.

The Latest From Chile

Here is Weston’s message for this week – as you see – it is short and it explains why – but sounds like he is doing great!

O.k. so for some reason mylds mail is broken. Fortunately President May said that we can use our other email accounts for our first week but only to get names so I won’t write a lot. Just to my family. I didn’t want you guys to worry. But wow I wish I had more time so much has happened this week. My companion’s name is Elder Marshalll and President May has trusted us to open a new area. There are just two members there lol. We are out in el campo (the country) we have done a lot of work and have two baptism commitments. For there being practically no members here, this is a miracle. We don’t have a house yet so we are living 30 minutes away so that is kind of a pain to travel every day but we are making progress on a house. We are excited and looking forward to the work. Hopefully the stupid computer will work next week. chow!

Week 8 and final message from MTC

Buenas Tardes,

Ok real quick just a few items of business. Ok so my Salt Lake City flight leaves at 300 pm and I fly to Dallas where I have a two hour layover. Then I fly straight to Chile. It last from 910 pm to 740 am! lol oh man. So as far as that care package goes, I trust you. Just make sure you throw in some starbursts!

This week has been pretty eventful. Yesterday I sealed a blessing for the first time ever. Also yesterday Elder Richard G. Hinckley spoke to us! He sounds and looks just like his dad. He was also very funny.

Also in my last day of basket yesterday I was on fire. I dunked once and I dominated Mr. "all star" lol yes I am still a little prideful lo ciento

Anyways they have us running around crazy trying to get us ready to leave - meetings here and there and then kind of packing all throughout the week.

One thing that was cool is that last week in the RC Elder Gates and I taught a native couple and the spirit was real strong especially during the atonement and they actually said they wanted to try to come the same time this week and get us again. ha ha it was great.

Spiritual thought: my thought this week is based on Nephi. He never fails to amaze me with his obedience diligence and faith. He never complained once against his God. He was tied up and beaten on more than one occasion; he was ridiculed for building a boat, persecuted for standing up for what’s right and continually rejected by his own flesh in blood. But still this amazing hombre de Dios (man of God) persevered in obedience and faithfulness. My advice this week is to think about what more you can do to help others and to serve your God. Be strictly obedient. Obedience is the first law of heaven. And as Nephi said in his last words: I must obey. For as I have learned, obedience is the secret to missionary work

I love you all and I love this work,

Week 7

Hey all!
This week has been pretty eventful. First off, the district ahead of us left Monday so we are now the top dogs. It was sad to see them go because some of them are like my most mejor amigos ever! ha ha I think they just might be able to convince me to come to BYU. Anyways, my ribs are fine now so no need to worry about that, you know how I am always getting hurt lol.

Ok I am so excited because we now have an LDS Spanish bible! It is soooooo much better. Also it has really got me excited about my new marking system! It is legit!

Ok so just two weeks left till I finally take off for Chile! I am really excited and nervous at the same time.

Another thing, mom and dad, could you guys send me a copy or a summery of grandpa and grandmas conversion stories? I know Granddaddy’s (and actually I have an interesting story I will tell you about in my other letter)

Spiritual thought: today I would like to talk about Grace. The true definition of Grace is The Divine Power of Christ’s Atonement. Through this great gift from God and from Christ, we can all be clean and comforted, for he truly did suffer for each and every one of us. As I have been really studying the New Testament my testimony and love for my Savior has greatly increased. I know some of you are going through some hard times right now and that is why I am telling you about Grace. In Romans 5:21 we read that sin reigns to death but Grace reigns through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ. While we are on this earth we are going to go through some pretty rough times. Our Heavenly Father is aware of this and He loves us and He will always comfort us. For as Romans 8:31 says: if God be for us, who can be against us? I love this scripture and it brings me great joy when I read it. We all go through great struggles in our lives but I feel sometimes we must realize more fully the depth and power of the atonement and all of the great agony and suffering that Christ went through. I fill guilty when I complain about just a little suffering. Then I think of the great Grace of Jesus Christ and I realize, it’s all going to be alright. I love you all and I love this work, till next time, Chow Elder Fischer

Week 6

Como le va!?

This past week has been awesome! First off, Sunday we were able to attend the temple dedication which was just absolutely amazing! Especially when Thomas S. Monson was talking I mean like wow. Also, yesterday Richard G. Scott was the speaker at our fireside! He gave a great talk on the spirit and following its guidance. Also something else that happened but isn’t really cool is that this morning I woke up with a real sharp pain in my side so I went to the health clinic and they said I have some inflammatory something or another in my lungs which makes it hard to breath. They said with Advil I should be fine in a few days though so that’s good.
Thanks to everyone for writing me! I really enjoyed reading all of your letters this week. Please keep sending them! I love to hear from you all.

Spiritual thought: The people of your heart don't know what is in your heart unless you tell them. So, make sure that those who are dearest to you know that they are. And what better way is there to tell someone you love them then by sharing the gospel? The restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ truly is the best thing that you can tell someone to let them know you love them. The restoration is the most important thing that you can teach someone. Some of you might say "no probably the atonement" yes the atonement is the single most greatest act ever in the history of the world but guess what, it is impossible for one to take full advantage of the atonement of Jesus Christ without being a member of his RESTORED church. For this church is the only church with the proper priesthood authority to administer in the necessary ordinances for eternal salvation in its fullest. The message that can change the world hasn't changed. lol ok now enough proselyting the Gospel.
It is often life’s smallest moments that can bring us the most joy and the best memories, don't let them pass you by. When your daughter or son or brother or sister asks you to help them with something or to play with them and you don't "have time", I promise you that you do. And I promise you that as you take advantage of those opportunities your life will be filled with more joy and love. So, sometime today or this week, take some time away from your self and do something nice for those closest to you. Just play with them, talk with them, or even better serve them. Therein lies happiness.

Love,
Elder Fischer

Dios nos ama y porque Dios nos ama el envio su hijo Jesucristo en la tierra para sufrir y expiar para nuestros pecados. esta es significa porque gracias a Jesuchristo y su expiacion, pudamos ser con nuestro padre celestial otra vez!

God loves us and because god loves us he sent his son Jesus Christ in the world to suffer and atone for our sins. This is significant because thanks to Jesus Christ and his atonement, we can be with our heavenly father again!

Week 5

Hey all!

This week has been great. All Spanish all the time I found out is more like all Spanish at the parts you can use Spanish and then blurt out what you don't know in English *(on accident of course) lol anyways, something else that is cool is that I am the new district leader! Also there is this 6-9 guy that is in our gym class now and everyone thinks he is like legit...I played him...he’s not. Ha ha anyways I am happy for this opportunity to serve my district. All my BYU peeps about to head off no? I am so excited for you! It will be really hard but I know that it will also be so much fun that it will be worth it.

Spiritual thought,

Ok this verse means a lot to me in my life especially more since I have been hear in the MTC and occasionally when I felt lonely at college: 1 Nephi 17:13. I am not going to write it – one, because I want you to look it up and read it and two, because I don't have a lot of time to write. Anyways this scripture means a lot to me because it reminds us of all that the Savior has done for us and tells us if we keep His commandments He will be "our light in the wilderness". If you think about your life you can relate it to a wilderness. We are traveling through this dark scary wilderness. But when we come unto Christ and are obedient and TRUST in Him He will be our light so that we can see. Also in this wilderness it can be kind of confusing as to which way to go unless we follow the iron rod (as we all know - is the word of God or the scriptures) if we are reading the scriptures and praying and doing all we can in this life then our journey through life, or the wilderness, will be much easier for we will have the light of Christ and the iron rod to lead us and guide us. Also what is so wonderful about our Heavenly Fathers plan for us is the Grace if Christ. Another way of saying grace is "divine atoning power of Christ". Through the grace of Jesus Christ we can all repent of our sins for WHATEVER we may have done in the past. The way through the wilderness can and will be rough for that is the way it was intended, but if we come unto Christ, it is all the more easier.

I want you all to know that you are all literal children of God. Just like our fathers here on earth, He wants the best for us always and He loves us so much that He is so very quick to forgive. Remember our purpose for this life: have joy and return to live with our loving Heavenly Father.

I love you all

Week 4

Hey all! All is well. Still haven't had an apostle yet but I still have 4 more devotionals so I still have hope lol. What can I say? Nothing has happened too special this week. Still learning and still enjoying every minute of it. I caught an ali-oop last week in gym and everyone was like whoah! ha ha anyways...

Spiritual thought of the week:

All of my life I have pictured Christ as our cheerleader on the sidelines of our lives. Always cheering us on and encouraging us and lifting up our spirits to continue on and do our best. But as I have studied out more about faith in Christ and as I have grown closer to my Savior personally I have realized that he is not only our cheerleader on the sidelines but also out there on the field or court (or what ever sport you want to use this analogy with) helping us more than we can ever possibly imagine to win the game of life. He has told us through the scriptures the perfect game strategy that if we follow has a 100 percent guarantee of victory. He helps us make halftime or in game changes through personal revelation that if followed will help guide us to a victory. And the best part is that when we mess up, instead of turning the ball over or losing, our savior has taken the fall for us so that we can continue on to victory! How great is our Savior!

Also remember this, if we obey our Savior in the fullest then He will bless us. But when we do not He cannot bless us in full. Remember that selective obedience is not obedience but is a great tool of the adversary.

I love you all and what you do,

Elder Fischer

Excerpts of the most recent family letter:

Ok so this past Sunday me and Elder Gates were in charge of teaching district meeting and we blew it out of the park! The spirit was really strong and it was one for the memories. The food here is sooo good. If I don’t watch it I could gain some weight here but I think I will be fine. Oh, yeah, tell Daniel Carper he was right about the juice lol. My companion tried it.lol He will get a kick out of that.

I will leave you with these great words of wisdom:

“If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you!” Elder Vincent

“Stand valiant and tall, through it all!” me!

Week 3

Here is Weston's email for this week:

Hey! Thanks for the packages they are so great! Those cinnamon roles were legit! lol I don't really have any specific request just keep them coming. Family I will write more to you in letters on the account of time.

Hey all! This week has been good. This week we started practicing the second lesson in English and we will next week too but from then on it is all Spanish all the time. ha ha...oh man.

lol But i know that the Lord will bless me and take care of me. Ok so spiritual thought of the week, the only thing that limits us from being all we can be is ourselves. Our unbelief and our own doubt is what keeps us from doing, saying and being what we can be. With faith and obedience we can do and say and be marvelous and wonderful people who do miraculous things. So, my message to you this week is of who you are. You are SONS and DAUGHTERS of GOD. Anything you ask of Him with faith and having good intent He will give us because he loves us. there are no limits other than the ones we set upon ourselves. So, my Brothers and Sisters, smile. Be happy. For this life is a wonderful life in which our purpose is to have joy. So go out and have joy and be faithful! We are of noble birth.

Also if you want to have more of a personal letter please write because i really don't have a lot of e-mail time here in the MTC. I will when I am out of the MTC but right now I don't. Thanks!

with lots of love,
Elder Fischer

Elder Fischer's Letter to the Young Men

Dear Young Men,
I wish you could feel the spirit and learn the things that I have learned in just the first week of my mission. This truly is Gods work and I promise you that their is no greater joy than helping bring to pass the salvation of man. As a missionary we work side by side with the Lord. My friends, it I can share with you one thing in this letter let it be this. We cannot afford to fall asleep at the spiritual wheel. For if we do we will deviate from the course we are on and may miss an opportunity to help someone. Another secret of missionary work that I have learned thus far is how important and effective it is to go above and beyond the call of duty. Go out of your way, everyday, to help someone that is above and beyond what you are asked to do. If we do this the Lord will open doors we cannot even imagine. I'm not saying do something huge. Just asking that if you see some trash on the ground you pick it up. Someone will notice and it will appeal to the Christ in them. Everyone has a Christ in them and when we appeal to that Christ in them, they will want to know more and we can teach them the gospel! Brothers, study Preach My Gospel. It is your guide. Not just for sharing the gospel but for growing spiritually and becoming more Christlike. I love you all! Elder Fischer

2nd Week Email

Hey to all! These first two weeks here at the MTC have been awesome! We have already learned to pray testify and teach part of the first lesson in spanish! One of my favorite things about the MTC is when we all come together for Tuesday evening devotionals and sing. It is just so amazing to see all of the Lords full time servants gathered together to sing praises to His name. Also i have a challenge to all of you, well really it is a challenge from our district. We are having a contest to see who's friends and family love them most and we are judging that by how many care packages we receive so please help me and Elder Gates! lol But on a more serious note i do have a challenge for you all. The book of Mormon is the Keystone of our religion and combined with the spirit, it is the MOST powerful conversion tool that we have. If we can get others to read and pray and believe in the Book of Mormon then they will also have to believe in Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith was a true prophet, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints is true, and that it is being led today by a latter day prophet who receives inspiration from the Lord. If we can do this than we can achieve our purpose which is to invite others to come unto Christ. I promise that if you can do this you will find no greater joy on this earth. Have fun and remember who you are and what you stand for!

Family, thanks so much for the letters through dearelder throughout the week. Even though I can't write back to you until Wednesdays i still love hearing from you throughout the week. also if you guys want to you can take over my facebook just make sure that everyone knows it is you not me on there. I Love you guys so much and you should be receiving one letter around tomorrow and I am sending another one today.

Love, Elder Fischer
