Feliz Navidad! 12-20-10

Feliz Navidad!

Wow thank you so so much for your letters! Actually in a few parts I teared up a bit...ok so I cried ha ha leave me alone! lol but seriously thanks so much, you all do a wonderful job writing your letters.

It’s amazing to think how much you have all changed and progressed! Sitting here reading about you all and how you’re doing and what you are all doing really gave me an opportunity to feel the tender mercies of the Lord this Christmas season. This week has been a busy one yet again. The best part of all was being able to see it a little white here in Chile too because we saw Camila Quitana receive the bountiful mercies of the Lord through Baptism. So we also enjoyed a white Christmas here. Also we had changes, now I am here with Elder Valencia. He is a 3 year convert and the only member of his family. He is from Chala Ecuador. Really funny.

I’m not going to lie I am way excited to talk to you all this Saturday. Just to here your voices and hear your love is something extra special then only read them. The family is called Familia Muler.

Hey it’s awesome to hear about Spence. Tell that boy to write me a stinkin letter. ha ha and send me a photo! Great to hear about our cousins, that was one of the parts I teared up knowing how they are doing. Saturday we will talk more about the whole college thing. I got my package last week!

Spiritual thought

The other day we were doing a contact and a man told me that people don’t really understand Christmas because they think it is all about giving presents and they really don’t understand what Christmas means. I told him that he was wrong. My companion thought I was just messing with him so he started to giggle a little bit. Then I continued to explain something that came to my mind. After a series of several questions I asked him what relation giving gifts had to do with our Savior. He responded a little surprised saying our Savior gave us the greatest gift of all, the Atonement. He was surprised because it finally occurred to him what the importance of giving was with Christmas. Then I proceeded to explain that the type of giving we should be doing is not necessarily in the material things, whereas the things that we should rather be giving in Christmas time and throughout all out lives is all our time, talents and efforts to building up the Kingdom of God. I explained to him about the gift of the Holy Ghost and the Gift of Eternal life, the two greatest gifts que hay. Then I testified that if we truly love the Savior that we will give him our time this Christmas. We have an appointment with him this Saturday; I’ll tell you how it goes ha ha. But my point that I want to make is that I want to invite all of you this Christmas to
Give a little more Christ. CHRISTmas (Mas means more in spanish)

Familia!

otra semana terminado. ha ha so yeah this week has been full of lots of events. I really enjoyed reading your letters this week. Sounds like everyone is growing and progressing so much. Zack is already ready to graduate, allie is rolling in basket, undefeated ata a way. Taylor...congrats man. ha ha you are about to enter into the experience of a lifetime man. you truely cant imagine how much your are about to be blessed. Hit me up with a letter before you leave man. Dad, setting up a brand new stake...have fun ha ha sounds like you are rolling along nicely. Mom, doing everything as always, ha ha how do you do it?

This week was a fun one. We have been running around crazy teaching and finding. Actually we have been really focusing on confirming a young lady named Elizabeth. We went to stop by her house sunday to make sure she arrived on time and we arrived right before they started the sacrament hyme and my companioln was making lots of hand motions to stop the m to do the confirmation and the members thought he was dancing rigatone ha ha. it was funny. and in the end she got confirmed so its all good. Also i gave a super spiritual blessing to my comapanion yetsterday to help him with some things. way cool.

Information about the call...we know nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha all i know is it should be the same as last time. We will email you the number of a member and a time to call and then you can call us. yes i am still in the city. i have already been in the two country sones so unless i get sent to the office, or the island then i will be here till the end i think. but the island is closed so i dont know what will happen there.

"Recently one of the trees in the front of the mission home fell down during a heavy rain. The tree was one of the biggest and tallest of all of the trees in the front yard. It measured more than 48 feet tall with the diameter of the trunk being more than 2 feet. Apparently the weight of water soak leaves and oversaturated soil combined with a strong wind caused the tree to topple over. Evidently the tree did not have roots sufficiently thick and deep enough to keep the tree from falling. Because the yard has been watered regularly throughout the years, the roots were able to supply the needed water to the tree without having to grow thick and deep into the ground to find water."

We must grow out the roots of our testimony. If we do not then when the windy and rainy temptations of satan come upon us then we will surely fall. THis week my invitation to you all is to think about what you can do to grow our your testimony roots.

Family!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so this week has been awesome. Really busy actually. Sounds like you all had a wonderfull week! Zack teaching like a Pro, allie ballin it up congrats on starting captain that’s awesome!!!!!! Remodeling MY house...not approved...lol jk...but seriously. Dad kicking butt at church service as usual and mom being superwomen. I am always so happy to read your letters.

This week has been awesome!!!! ha ha my companion was sick all week so I went on changes with the members to work, lol I don’t even know the sector. But we were super super successful. WE found a joven that had been to church 4 times and wanted to get baptized...and we baptized her yesterday. Lol so we pretty much arrived to our sector and in one week achieved a baptism. Tender Mercies of the Lord. Also we have 3 lined up for this week that are coming and 2 for the last week of this month. Ha ha my leaders are very pleased with us. lol but really I haven’t done anything. Just the normal things, talk with the bishop and lots of members and everyone in the street. It’s kind of our job. Also something unusual in the mission is that our district is 6 missionaries. Usually it’s just four, and 2 are sister missionaries. These are the first sister missionaries to be in the zone for 10 years cause it’s really dangerous...I’ve got work to do. ha ha but it’s all good. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Also this week as missionaries we have a conference with Elder Cobrige of the Seventy!!!!! And he will come to our stake conference also this Sunday!!!!! yessssssssssssssss ha ha

Something that I shared with the Sisters this week, D & C 122. The Lord gives us all kinds of challenges for our own good. So that we can learn and grow and be stronger and better people. God loves us and wants us to grow. If we have a hard challenge it is because God loves us and trusts us so much that He knows we can do it. He does it so we become closer to Christ our Savior and his atonement. May we all overcome our challenges through the atonement of Christ our Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Elder Fischer

The Lord has commanded it and I must obey.

P.S. mom for the package, candy for the members and letters and pics. not much else. I’m fine. I am in the mish, what more could I ask for

Hola from Chile 10-20-10

Thank you so much for you letters, seriously your letters are blessings to me in so many wonderful ways. I am glad mam-maw is doing better. I was praying a lot for her and for mom and granddaddy. Homecoming against our old coach, that’s really interesting ha ha. How Henderson doing anyways? Happy late-bday dad!

Well this week was a good one for us. Actually with this week and the two weeks before me and my companion have 18 acts of service! And we are really seeing the fruits of it. One morning we went to clean out the yard of our stake President who was a bit of an angry man at the best of times but after we completely turned around his yard he is now the most loving man that I know. Little acts of love count. Also we are teaching a young man named Carlos and he walks and talks like he is the coolest ladies man ever and then when we got to church and he saw young women he ran out of the building really scared ha ha. He is going to get baptized the 31st of this month. He has 17 years and in two years he going on a mission. Also today we are going to clime a mountain as a zone and have a picnic for lunch. It took lots of hours of planning but it’s worth the suffering for these missionaries. Ill be sure to take copies of pictures from someone to send to you all. But sadly because we are doing this activity I have no more time. But I really would like to leave you with just one thought.

Today we are going to clime a hill and look down on Chile from above. As we look down we will see how beautiful and blessed this country is. Then we will talk about something really important. Just like the gospel, it takes work to clime up the hill but once we get up and look down, the view is so much better. As we live our lives in the gospel sometimes we have to work or make sacrifices, but the view is always better.

Love you and pray for you every week.

Hola from Chile 10-02-10

Hola Familia,

This week has been a great one for me. Conference was absolutely amazing and I learned so so much. It really is interesting how about 2 years ago I dreaded conference and now when it ends I still want to learn and hear more. Several talks caught my attention but I will get to that later. As far as missionary work goes I don’t know why but this week went a little slowly. We did have the privilege to brig 4 people to conference to hear the prophet’s voice which was a huge blessing for them. With the changes this past week brought to us new, very new leaders to our zone. Lol the Lord is trying our patience. Ha ha no just kidding it really is a privilege to be here to see and help these missionaries progress.

Zack, suerte en the ACT. Ha ha worst hours of my life... na jk you will do fine. What else you up to? Or are you just serious schoolboy right now?

Allie keep strong in basket and keep burnin it up. When I get back I will still be able to beat you si o si but we can still play a little one on one...

Mom I wish I could be in your seminary classes. I bet they are marvelous!

Dad, when are you going to send me pics of your/my new toys?

I am also working up a package for you guys, hopefully I will find time to send it...

Spiritual thought
In D&C section 138 I read something that really caught my attention. It says that we were all chosen before this world to come down here and be who we are. We were given all the tools necessary to be able to return and live with God. It is possible for each and every one of us to perform our labors and callings. If it was too hard or impossible for any one of us to return to God and live in the Celestial kingdom then we would not have chosen to come down here as humans with the possibility of being Gods. We are sons and daughters of our heavenly and all powerful God and so we are future kings and queens of kingdoms too. I wish that this could burn in your fibers as it does in mine every day. We all are capable of completing our duties here on earth, no matter how hard and no matter what the trial, we can do it. Jesus Christ opened up the Gates of Mercy unto us and now we only must do what He asks. It is my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

Love,
Elder Fischer

Hola from Chile 9-28-10

Buenas Tardes,

This week for me was a great one. We found and taught several people and also we had a baptism. Her name is Veronica Quioroga and her baptism was very very special. Tears and a great big hug for her husband who baptized her. It’s a moment I will never forget. Also there were changes this week, I didn’t have any changes but everyone in our zone did. I was happy though because two district leaders that are trained are now zone leaders in other zones. I am excited to have another 6 weeks her in Lo Prado.

One verse I just read in Isaiah was interesting:
Isaiah 28:20, “For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.” This is what I feel it means: “If we are not covered by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, we will find yourself like a man in a bed too short for him with a blanket that is too small to cover him. No matter how appealing sin may look at first, it can never satisfy our inner needs. The sinful person will be ever like the man in a short bed with inadequate covers. He will twist and turn and constantly seek comfort, but he cannot find it. The Atonement of Christ for our sin covers, or is efficacious for, only those who trust in God with all their hearts and keep His commandments.” If you have ever tried to sleep sitting up, like in an airplane chair, or in a car, or in a small bed or area shorter than your legs, you can understand how uncomfortable and restless that sleep might be for you. Also, in some cold nights here in Santiago or Los Andes, we really notice if the covers or blankets of our bed leave one part of us still exposed to the outside air. We realize how important that blanket is to help us be completely warm and comforted. How insightful was Isaiah in describing this symbolism to us in reminding us of our need for the Savior and His complete Atonement in our lives. We want complete forgiveness of our sins, so that there is not one part of us still with sin. “We have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.” (Mosiah 5:2) As we prepare this week for the blessing of participating in the General Conference, may we remember the words of Alma as he reminded the people of Zarahemla of the opportunity to hear the word of God, as we will from our Prophets, Apostles and other leaders of the Church. Alma 6:5, “The word of God was liberal unto all, that none were deprived of the privilege of assembling themselves together to hear the word of God.” This General Conference will be made available to His children, and we need to prepare ourselves spiritually, to be ready to feast and be filled with His spirit of revelation to personally teach us what we need to hear. Let us each go prayerfully seeking instruction, personal revelation, and answers to our individual prayers. As the Book of Mormon father Mormon wrote to his son, Moroni, my heart shares similar thoughts for each of you, my dear Elders and Sisters. “My son (dear family) be faithful in Christ…may Christ lift thee up, and may His sufferings and death, and the showing His body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever….”(Moroni 9:25)

Hola from Chile 9-21-10

This week was truly a fun one. We have about 20 empanadas in the refrigerator because everyone for mom’s birthday had a barbeque and were just handing out food every second to us. Lol it was great. We also had to do some "babysitting" for some of the missionaries but its all good lol. We also had a wonderful baptism this week. He is called Miguel Arraya a Joven of 15 years that already wants to serve a mission and arrives at church every day at 8 to serve and help and learn and grow. Very spiritual experience. Also on the other side I think the Lord is testing our patience because we have talked with a bazillion Jehovah witnesses this week and sometimes they just really irritate me...

Lol anyways sounds like you have had a good week. Mom I can’t buy a camera here now because last time I lived right next to an Americanized store but now I’m in the city and they don’t have anything. I will not let it get stolen this time!!!!!!!!!! lol

This Week our mission Doctor had to go home early because he was detected with terminal cancer that is very aggressive and fast. They say he has one year to live. He bore a powerful beautiful testimony about the Atonement. It was a good learning experience.

Spiritual thought. This week I have been thumbing around through some Church history that has really lifted up my spirit and diligence in missionary work and also in my personal conversion. It is amazing to me some of the trials and persecutions that they were able to bare. Missionaries left without even having shoes on their feet or a single penny to their name. But they went joyfully with a song in their hearts only saying; I’ll go were you want me to go. I was meditating how and why they could have such great faith and confidence in the Lord. Cause when I have trials my first thought is why me or why is this happening. Then I realized that their faith and confidence and understanding came through their understanding of the Atonement and Love for Christ. They truly understood it and because they understood it they were able to apply it in their lives and serve with ALL their heart might mind and strength. When one really understands the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the words "I" and "me" disappear and the words "what more can I do for the Lord" appear. When this change happens, our testimony, conversion and desire to serve greatly increase and we become more and more like our Savior Jesus Christ. It is my solemn testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Familia,

This week has been a really good one. Filled with lots of challenges and also lots of miracles as always. Lots of blessing for the sick, also lots of baptisms dropped (wah?!) and also lots of training for missionaries .

Don’t have lots of time because we have lots of work to do but there are a few things that I wanted to say. First and most important, mom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ha ha how old are you now? lol jk don’t respond. I wish I could be there Saturday to bug you like you always do to us lol jk I actually miss it. Spence congrats man. Hit me up with an email man. (with a pic) Jay sounds like you are doing a wonderful job already, keep it up. Can I send emails to Jayson? Britt and Bruce, enjoy your flights and be safe. Madi too. Zack good luck in school. Allie kick some butt in basket!

Story,
So Thursday started out really difficult with lots of failed appointments and stuff but we continued with excitement and energy and followed the spirit. After pretty much everything fell through we felt like visiting a new convert. We showed up right at a moment when they desperately needed us and it was a very spiritual lesson. Then we left the lesson still without hardly any plans, again we felt like we should visit a member. We showed up and they were very very sick and we gave them all blessings and all of them are now completely better and they gave us lots of references! lol follow the spirit, he knows the way.

Oh yeah, mom 18 is so special cause it’s your birthday duh! lol and also its the "4th of July" of Chile. And its the 200th also so its huge here this year. Everything will be shut down all week and we are going to talk with pure drunk people all day every day ha ha. Please pray for us. Also because of this our p-day next week is Tuesday because everything will be closed Monday still. All of Chile will be celebrating moms b-day in grand fashion. lol anyways, love you all!

Hola from Chile 9-06-10

Hola familiacita,

This week has been a week with lots and lots of hard work which truthfully is just how I like it. Ha ha one night my companion and I both fell a sleep in the middle of planning lol. Divisions, fasts, prayers, and motivating the missionaries. But with much work as always comes many rewards. The Zone is really really getting better. We are on tract to baptize more this month than any other zone in Chile. I try not to take pride in myself but rather in the work these lovely missionaries are doing. Sometimes I find myself in the middle of the night still on my knees having fallen asleep praying endlessly for these missionaries. Sometimes I even have the problem of losing focus in my own sector and baptizing in my own sector and my companion has to slap me back into focus. This month will be full of challenges though because the 18th is a Saturday and the biggest holiday in Chile and I am worried about getting people to church. But with faith and works all will come out fine.

As far as health goes really I am just fine, dead tired in every aspect but just fine lol. So thinking about my package there is something else I would love to have...peanut butter! And lots of it too. It’s rare and really expensive here. Also some updated pics would be nice too. Also I remembered that I left my ctr ring and it would be nice to have one. And, snickers, lots. Lol the rest is all up to you peeps. Oh actually no, one more thing. But first I have to tell you a story. so basically I got robbed again and they took my camera all my pics for the past 4 ,months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I kinda need a camera. I am going to ask companions and others to send me some pics they have of me in the past months.

My companion is awesome. Really funny and smart and willing to work so he’s perfect.

Spiritual thought,

8-23-2010

Wow thanks so mush for all the letters that you have all sent me. I really felt your love and concern for me and your wonderful energy and excitement about your lives. Wow TAYLOR!!!!!! Ha ha my Spanish speaking Mexico serving friend! Congrats man. Lol that is so awesome! It sent a chill up my spine when I heard the news...well, read the news lol. Jayson is in England, that’s crazy, no that’s awesome. I am so excited to get back and play Rugby with all you guys, it sounds like so much fun. Matt you probably should try running faster...

Well things here in the mission have been crazy this week. Lots of work, but that’s a good thing. There is an elder that fell on his bike this week and is in bad shape and the Doctor for the mission couldn’t see him until this Tuesday for some reasons that will remain unnamed. But short story, we did some praying and made some calls and found a doctor that lived close to us that just got baptized yesterday and went an hour and a half in car to see this Elder and help him. Lol and this doctor is from Italy and he is strange. Lol good experience though.

My new companion is shill. He is here to work and serve the Lord so we get along great. Actually he got baptized just 3 years ago. He is from Peru. It’s funny though cause he looks just like the Monkey "lui" from the jungle book. I’ll try to send you all a photo.

Spiritual thought,

"Whether you think you can or you think you can’t your right" this is something we have all heard several times. A scripture that supports it is Mark 9:23. If we have faith this statement is really true. We have so many examples, especially the two thousand stripling warriors. They were obedient, worthy, and faithful and they had set in their minds they could do anything and they did it putting all their trust in the Lord. I know that it is the same for us. Trust in the Lord, be obedient, and faithful.

Last Week – 8/16/2010

Hey all!

Well let’s see where I should start. This week has been an eventful one that is for sure. There at home as well I here. Wow Braydon congrats man. Also Taylor I can’t wait to see were your going! Also a shout out to Jayson, man you are going to do great I love ya man. Ok so here this week we did lots of stuff. Saying goodbye to Elder Lloyd was harder than I thought. We really were great friends. Pretty much the entire zone had a change. So we are excited to get to work here in San Pablo. My new companion is Elder Francia. He is from Peru (lima). He is really smart and we are excited to get started.

Anyways I don’t really know what else to write. I am doing fine, don’t need anything. It will definitely be a good challenge being lead zone leader but I’m excited for it. If you have any questions or comments just shoot me an email.

Spiritual thought, when we get baptized we all become disciples of Christ. In D&C we learn exactly what it is we must do as disciples of Christ "5 He that receiveth my law and doeth it, the same is my disciple; and he that saith he receiveth it and doeth it not, the same is not my disciple, and shall be cast out from among you". So, if we are Disciples of Christ then we must "do the law" or, be obedient. We made this covenant when we choose to get baptized. It is my invitation that we can all meditate on our baptismal covenants and what it is we are all doing in our lives to honor and magnify it.

Love you all, thanks for all you do for me. Keep it up!

August 8, 2010

Hola family,

Lol wow it really seems like everyone has had a really busy week. Zack and the boys into rugby - that’s awesome, my companion right now was way good at it and he always talks about it so that’s cool. I'm excited to try it out. Mom congrats on finishing the taxes, sounds like you is way more relieved. Wow Jay congrats on going to the temple! How was it? Lol wish I could have been there. Getting close to leaving aren’t we? Lol nervous? You will do great.

Oh man Cathy, I'm so sorry. Aunt Cathy has had it rough lately in her life. Also I'd like to give a shout out to Lauren. You are really a good example for me. I am so grateful to have someone so strong in their faith to endure all of these trials. Taylor congrats on getting the Priesthood. Use it well.

Well this week has been a good one. Even though half of the zone is going home next Monday so they are all trunky and chueco. So basically no other missionaries are doing anything except buying going home memorials. 20 missionaries are arriving to the mission and all of our district leaders are going to leave so I will be a busy man. That’s a good thing though. They will be humble and ready to learn and follow and lead. I think president really trusts me to be focused because he always puts me with the trunkiest missionaries lol. I'll be excited to have lots of changes this next week. Speaking of, might not have a whole lot of time to write next week just a heads up. This week we just did lots of divisions with some of the younger missionaries so they can start to prepare to be the future leaders of the mission. But in spite of all the troubles and trials I have really felt my Saviors love for me this week. I really grew in my testimony and love for the mission and what I have done and am doing and will be doing. It was a good experience though the other day talking with my companion and he just told me how much I had helped him stay focused towards the end of hi mission and helps him with some problems he has had. I thought that my job as helping and supporting missionaries in need had ended as I became zone leader but I realized yesterday that it wit is one of the most important jobs w as missionaries have even if we re with other great missionaries.

This computer is really slow and the keyboard is annoying me.

Anyways...lol lets move on to a spiritual thought. As I was just sitting here pondering a bit. It came to my attention that in our family we have had several people among us who have had to face some serious trials in their lives and in the lives of friends as well. Also I have seen several that have stayed so true to the Gospel and to their God that it is absolutely amazing to me. It made me think of an example from the Old Testament. Job. Satan had full rein and rights to test and tempt Job. Job lost his wealth, his house, is family, his health, and even in the end his friends ridiculed him saying he was a bad man. And in spite of all this, in the middle of these burdensome trials, all he had to say for himself was ¨though he slay me, yet will I trust him.¨ Job 13 15. Job held on, Job was true to his God and his Savior and murmured not. And as a reward God promised him eternal life and riches and glory beyond imagination. I know that sometimes in life and sometimes lots of time in life we go through trials, but if we follow the example of Job and rely upon the Atonement of Christ and trust in him with all we have, we will be delivered from all our trials. Whether it be in this life or the next, we will be delivered. He loves us, He is our Savior and he is preparing our mansions in the Kingdom of God. He is waiting there for us and as long as we obey we will get there. So it is my prayer that all of us may rely on the Lord, in times of need as well as in times of joy, that we may all be lifted up together in the last day. In the Name of Jesus Christ amen.

Hola from Chile 7/26/10

Familia,

Ok so I am just going to get right down to things because we are in charge of a zone activity and we are already running behind on schedule. This week has been crazy, for leaders we had an AP meeting because there are new Preach My Gospel teaching DVDs and we had to learn of how the mission is going to change and purify the way we do things. The mission is hitting a very low point right now and is struggling a lot. Being in charge of 26 missionaries in a time like this is fun...lol some try to go a little disobedient and some start arguing with companions and all sorts of problems. Anyways, we are working with all these things patiently and with trust in the Lord.

Mom I did get your packages about 2 weeks ago. And I do still need the clothes because it is still really really cold in the mornings and nights and heating doesn’t exist in Chile. Lol Anyways this week just talking with lots of families and people that just don’t really know what they have really made me start to think. Thanks so much for the way you raised me. I really realize now how truly privileged I am to have been raised and loved by probably the best parents ever. I hope I never take that for granted.

I had planned on sending you guys some photos this week but with the
activity we have less than any time. For our activity we are going
to all go play soccer at a rented field and have a barbeque. And we don’t have a lot of time to do it so we have to do it efficiently. Lol and so I am sorry that this letter is even shorter than others have been lately but when duty calls you must answer. Sounds like you all had a wonderful week. Pictures look great. Love you all and if you have questions just let me know and next week I’ll be all over it.

Hola from Chile 6-28-2010

Good day family and friends,

Thank you all so much for the wonderful letters you wrote me this week. I seriously felt your love and the Spirit so strong I just wanted to get out of my seat and go preach the gospel and then I remembered that I still had to writ back. Well I don’t have a whole lot of time so I will just fill you all in quickly on the week. This week as a zone we were able to bring many souls to Christ. It was a good reward for all the hard work these wonderful missionaries have been doing. Actually this week my companion and I were running around like crazy trying to take care of all the interviews. Also we managed to bring a young girl named Izydora into the gospel this week. She is so amazing and you can really see a change in her eyes as she has been welcomed by the members in a loving fashion. Also this week Chile qualified for the next round of the world cup and it went crazy. Lol there were kids in the middle of the street throwing rocks at each other. A drunken man was pushing us around, and a drunken lady proposed to us and offered us about 20 cents to marry her. Lol today they play against Brazil so it will be nice for this to come to an end as it is really affecting the work sometimes. Actually for the reason of the game we cannot go out a whole lot today during game hours.

Allie is beast at b'ball! Lol wow if she keeps it up with this group they are sure to win states in high school. Keep it up sis I am so proud of you. Keep taking it to the whole. And by the way...HAPPY BDAY! Lol 13 whats up my teenaged little sister. How is it like to be a teenager_ I wouldn’t know...lol

Zack you’re a beast

Mom and dad, thanks as always for your inspiring messages.

Oh wow when I read Elder Millers first letter chills ran down my spine. Welcome to the brotherhood my good friend

Spiritual thought
The successful man in life is not the one that has a million dollars or a really good job, he’s not the one that uses his bright mind to run and manage others and not the one who has all the talents in the world, but rather, the one who gives all his talents to the Lord, and the one who submits 100 percent to the will of the Lord.

Hola from Chile 6-21-2010

Family,
So great to hear from you all today, especially President Peters and his family. I love hearing from them and their council. Well this week has been way crazy here in Chile during the World Cup. Especially because Chile is winning their games. Actually they just won their second game here about 30 minutes ago so everyone is running around in the streets with the Chile flag and everyone is in their cars honking their horns, and shouting. lol it is bien loco. Also this week we went to the temple. I love the Temple. Being in the city has its advantages and disadvantages for the work. The advantage is that when we find an investigator they get baptized really quickly because the life style is faster and more up beat. The difference is it is just a little harder to find the people because they don’t want to talk to you. But with an increase of faith, obedience and diligence, anything is possible. Mom you are going to hate me. Bueno not hate me but be a little frustrated. Thanks for sending the package but I have one other request...lol we have been playing lots of soccer and I need new shoes and I have looked here everywhere and it is impossible to find shoes my size so if you can buy some indoor soccer shoes that would be cool. Nothing fancy I just need some. Well we have an activity this week and we have to prepare it so I don’t have any time at all but I will leave you with a spiritual thought. "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary and walk and not faint." -Isaiah 40, 31. I absolutely love this scripture. Also I like to replace “waiting upon the Lord” with "trusting in the Lord" because to me that’s what it means. Let us mount up on eagles wings, trusting in the Lord, and run with all we got knowing that we will not be weary nor faint. We must run in our study of the Gospel and increase of testimony. We must run with greater understanding of God and what he requires of us. It is my prayer that we can mount upon the wings of the Gospel and of Christ, and sore to new heights we never thought imaginable.

Zack write me, Koontz too. Love you all, till next week!

Hola from Chile 6-07-2010

Family of mine,

Wow sounds like everyone has had a really busy week there at home and that it will only get even busier this week. Lol congratulations for that. Dad sounds like your meetings were awesome. Lol you will have to tell me more about them when your brain slows down. Why is everyone graduating!!!!!!!!!! Lol I guess the business of Britt and Bruce is doing better if they are buying the biggest and baddest phones on the block.

Mom I will not be needing a sleeping bag because Elder Orellana sent me his that he used for just the last two months of his mission so I lucked out there. But I haven’t had time to buy sweats and nor do I think I will have the time so some nice sweats would be a good help. Also I don’t know if they still exist or if zack stole them but my long sleeve under armor and pants would be a help also. As you know I don’t have a whole lot of time but I will share a spiritual thought and a cool story with you all.

STORY: so in the city things are just a little bit more dangerous. Don’t worry mom everyone is too scared or drunk to do anything. So yesterday we were walking down a street and all of a sudden we here a loud voice yell "Norteamericanos” so we turned to see who it was to shake his hand but he was really angry. He started to sprint at us so we started running. Then he started yelling at us "SAPO” which in Chile means spies but in Spanish means frog so I was kind of laughing. But anyways he was kind of big so he ran out of breath after like three blocks and stopped but I thought it was funny because I have never been called a frog before. Even zack didn’t come up with something that original.

Ok a little more spiritual. In Alma 37:38-43 Alma cites the account of his fathers and the Liahona. He seeks to teach his missionary son Helaman the importance of having both faith and diligence in God’s small means of bringing about miracles. The Liahona was provided to help Lehi and his family reach the goal of arriving at Promised Land.

20 “And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.” (1 Nephi 2:20)

38 “And now, my son, I have somewhat to say concerning the thing which our fathers call a ball, or director—or our fathers called it Liahona, which is, being interpreted, a compass; and the Lord prepared it.”

39 “And behold, there cannot any man work after the manner of so curious a workmanship. And behold, it was prepared to show unto our fathers the course which they should travel in the wilderness.” (Alma
37:38, 39)

We have been given a number of simple tools such as prayer, scripture study, and Church attendance as “types in this thing” in accomplishing our goal of having a mighty change of heart. President Gordon B. Hinckley has said, “There is no greater miracle than when an individual is converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” May I propose the idea that just because we were baptized into the Church of Christ does not mean we have been fully converted, We must have a change of heart and that comes from using our daily tools such and prayer scripture study and church. But even more, we most prove it through our works and actions. Do we do home teaching, do we do it early in the month, more than once, do we show up to meetings early and sit in the front and pay attention and try to learn and progress, do we try every minute of every day to serve? It is my firm testimony that to arrive to be all that we can be a change of heart is absolutely necessary and I testify that it comes as we increase our understanding of the atonement.

Love you all and all you do for me.

Familia,

I truly felt the spirit as I read all of your words today. Before I came on the mission I had the fear of not being with you all of the time and watching you all grow and learn and walk through life. But just reading your heart felt words every week truly keeps me going throughout the week and I feel as if I am there watching everything take place. The city life is a lot crazier and a lot more different in Chile. As the Chileans say, Chile isn’t Santiago and Santiago isn’t Chile because they are two different worlds. Lol my first day here (Monday) I almost died and received my best compliment I have ever received.

My new assignment is truly amazing. To be able to work with all of these amazing missionaries is a blessing especially to feel their love for the Lord and their mission is great. Also challenging as we have already had to deal with a few things but it truly is a blessing and I am honored to serve.

How crazy dad is going to have a meeting with Elder Bednar!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol you have to bring a recorder and hide it or something...lol jk don’t do that. But tell me all you can! And thanks for all that advice on being a leader. It is greatly accepted and if you can find a good book written by the church it would be much appreciated!

Anyways I don’t have anything of time now so my letter is a little short. But of course I can’t leave you without a spiritual thought, it is actually what our president wrote us this week but I really liked it:

Dear Sisters and Elders,

In the introduction of Chapter 37 in Alma, it says the “plates of brass and other scriptures are preserved to bring souls to salvation.”. We have been called to preach the gospel of repentance and we have been entrusted with the greatest tool for conversion, the Book of Mormon. The Lord expects us to use it powerfully and effectively in all of our proselyting efforts.

In Chapter 37 Alma is teaching his son Helaman of the importance of keeping the sacred records containing the Holy Scriptures. Perhaps he sensed in Helaman a lack of understanding of how important and powerful the scriptures were in God´s great and eternal purposes when he said, “Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise” (Alma 37:6).

Alma teaches Helaman why he should preserve the scriptures. “ And now, it has hitherto been wisdom in God that these things should be preserved; for behold, they have enlarged the memory of this people, yea, and convinced many of the error of their ways, and brought them to the knowledge of their God unto the salvation of their souls” (Alma 37:8).

The study of the Book of Mormon truly does “enlarge the memory” of investigators, members, and missionaries that we do have a Heavenly Father who knows us, answers our prayers, and has a plan of happiness in which we can achieve eternal life through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. President Boyd K. Packer has said that “the gospel will have a familiar “ring” to an adult or a child”. The power of the Book of Mormon greatly increases that familiar ring as we use it regularly in our teachings.

To impress upon Helaman even more the power of the Holy Scriptures, Alma cited the example of Ammon and his brethren in verse 9:

“Yea, I say unto you, were it not for these things that these records do contain, which are on these plates, Ammon and his brethren could not have convinced so many thousands of the Lamanites of the incorrect tradition of their fathers; yea, these records and their words brought them unto repentance; that is, they brought them to the knowledge of the Lord their God, and to rejoice in Jesus Christ their Redeemer”.

He then poses a very powerful question about the potential of the Holy Scriptures in bringing many thousands of others including their unrighteous Nephite brethren to a knowledge of Jesus Christ, their Redeemer (Alma 37:10).

Alma reminds Helaman that God has entrusted him with these sacred records and that if he keeps the commandments of God, prays for inspiration to know what to do with these sacred records, “He will show forth his power in them unto future generations, therefore they shall be preserved” (Alma 37:16-19). What a great reminder this is to us as missionaries to trust in the Book of Mormon as a powerful tool for conversion. It continues today to play an essential role in the conversion of many to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let us use it powerfully and effectively in our daily teaching here in the North mission that we may bring thousands and thousands to a knowledge of the truth and salvation through baptism of water for a remission of sins and a baptism of the Spirit for the precious gift of the Holy Ghost.

I testify that the Book of Mormon does “enlarge our memories” in reminding us of our purpose here in this life and of the great plan of salvation that our loving Heavenly Father has provided for us in which we can achieve eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism for the remission of sins, receiving the precious gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

Hola fam,

I truly loved all of your letters this week. I could really feel the Spirit and your love for me. Thank you so much. The things you say and teach me always leave me ready and animado for the week. We had a pretty productive week. A little slow because my companion ya esta listo por su casa but all is well it leaves me even more determined to work harder and build up the faith of others.

Allie congrats on a wonderful season of basketball! You are so awesome! Now you just got to train for next year right? Lol Zack sounds like you had a busy week with lots of church activities. Those always were my favorite activities! Dude send me your talk or at least the outline I hear it was awesome! Zack and Allie you truly are examples for me! Please continue faithfully in your wonderful lives of service.

Barker! Congrats man! It sounds like you had an awesome mission! Lost just a little weight though...lol tiny boy!

Jayson be the happy Jayson you are ;)

Mom, Dad, Thank you for teaching and leading and raising me in the way of the Lord. I was reading the teachings of King Benjamin this week and you would be surprised how much I saw his teachings in harmony with yours. I am indebted and truly grateful for this wonderful gift you have given me.

Well I have pure desires to work and lots of it to do so spiritual thought.

Some murmur when the sky is clear
and wholly bright to view,
if one small peck of dark appear
in their great heaven of blue:
and some with thankful love are filled,
if but one streak of light,
one ray of Gods good mercy, gild
he darkness of heir night.

May we all realize what we as members of the true church of God have in our lives. We have the priesthood and as such the opportunity to apply the atonement in our lives through repentance. That is more than just a streak of light in our day no matter how dark it may appear.

Love you all, Have a good week!

Hola from Chile 5-10-2010

Buenas Dias fam,

It was so great to hear your voices yesterday! Even if my voice is with a bit of a Spanish accent lol. I was actually nervous for that reason. We don’t talk in English ever so I hadn’t practiced for a while. I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s day mom. I know I did cause I got to talk to you lol. Not that I’m a mother or anything but it was still a good day.

Other than feeling super homesick we found a wonderful person yesterday! So the work continues onward as long as we are doing the will of the Lord. Sounds like my boys had a way fun time at the father-son-Jaquish campout lol. I miss those. Allie it sounds like your talent show will be way cool. You will have to film it in case I ever decide to come home from Chile ;) I’m sure I’ll hear all about it next week. Good luck!

Wow so zack is going to be senior boy! lol hard to believe that you all are going to be ending this year of school so soon. Time flies in the service of the Lord.

Mom if you want you could send some sweats for the nights and mornings or you could even send me some money and I could just buy them here what ever you prefer.

Well I don’t really know what else to write, we talked a lot yesterday. soooooooooooooooo, spiritual thought:

"Its your attitude, not your aptitude, that determines your altitude in life"-Dave Dean.

A wise man stood at the gate of an American city and greeted travelers as they arrived. One day, a traveler asked him:
"What kinds of people live in this city?"
The wise man responded with a question of his own: "what kind of people lived in the city from whence you came?"
"Oh, they were very bad people," answered the traveler, "cruel, deceitful, and devil-worshipping."
"You will find the same kind of people in this city", replied the wise man.
Some time later a second traveler came to the gate and asked about the people in the city. The wise man again asked this question:
"What kind of people lived in the city from whence you came?
"Oh, they were a very good people," answered the second traveler, "hard working, generous, and God-fearing"
" You will find the same kind of people in this city" Smiled the wise man.

My wish is that we can all remember who we are and what we stand for and that we must be agents to act not objects to be acted upon in the life. I love you all and pray that you may find the joy life has to offer through the Grace and mercy of our Savior and Lord, Jesus The Christ.

Sorry it has been a few weeks since I sent out emails from Weston – here is a compilation of those 3 weeks

May 3, 2010

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you so so much for all the letters and birthday wishes and songs! Even though they were written I could truly hear them. (especially Fischer style lol) So wow so much has happened this week with you all! First of all, Jaquish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! England man! Ha ha the only one that actually did get sent to Europe! Ha ha wow. Street I can’t believe your home man! Como es la casa despues la mision? Extraña? Digame todo! Zack, I hear you freaking beasted it in scripture mastery. Atta boy! Allie kicking butt at b-ball. Britt...I miss you!!!!! Lol sounds like you had a super special week. Mom and Dad, truly my heroes, especially in the Gospel. Fischer’s of Men.

Anyways for my birthday my companion asked me what I wanted to do. I was really hoping for that lol. There is a lonely old lady in our ward that lives really far away and has been alone for a whole lot of time. Every Lunes she has family home evening all by herself. So for my birthday I wanted to give her the gift of a family home evening with us for the evening so we are going to go up there to help out this sweet old lady. Nothing more. I don’t really feel like doing much for my birthday, its like I told my companion, I may have been born this day but it’s not my day, I am on the Lords time and I will spend it in his service not in mine.

Sorry that there is nothing more to say cause there is no time but I had to read a lot of emails which is a good thing! Lol love you all! If you want to do something for my b-day...go out and serve.

Love,
Elder Fischer

April 27, 2010

My dear family,

Jayson I am stuck between three places...California, Texas, Chile Concepcion sur. Pick one cause its one of these three I’m not joking.

So it was another inspiring week here in Los Andes. I truly felt the tender mercies of the Lord as we were able to see Mieya and Vicente sit with HNO Nicanor as a family after their confirmation. I actually almost started to cry. I will try to send the photos.

Street! don’t goooooooooo! lol

Spiritual thought:
So I have been studying a lot about love and service this week and I was reading in 2 Nephi in chapter 26 and vs 30 and 31 really stuck out to me. It says that it is a commandment that we have charity and love. It says that if we have not charity then we have nothing. Then in vs 31 it says that those that work in Zion work FOR Zion. Not for recognition of other people and not for anything else. We as members of the church all have callings and as we serve we should serve FOR Zion or, FOR the Lord and we should do it because we Love and cherish him. I am learning this more and more as I serve everyday. My only hope is that he can shape me and use me in this work. I signed up for 2 years of service but now I know that almost 12 years ago I signed up for a lifetime of service. My testimony is that God lives, that Jesus Christ is His son and the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Thanks to Him, I can be with all of you forever. For this reason I have to serve For him and For Zion.

Love
Elder Fischer

The Lord has commanded it and I must obey.

April 19, 2010

First, this week I caught some sort of virus but it is not that bad so I still left and worked I just had to work through a little pain. But that’s the mish, you are always having to work through adversity. So then Thursday we constructed a Mission Impossible plan for one of our investigators who is called Mireya and her grandson. Her husband is a member and he is the problem actually lol. Every time we have a lesson and he is there he interrupts like crazy and really is pressuring her. Like way overly pressuring her and the spirit is never there. So what we had been doing is passing by when he was working but last week he lost his work so he is always there. She was not progressing at all but we prayed Wednesday and felt that she needed to get baptized this week si o si. So we organized this plan. When we arrived at the house I immediately started talking with him and asking him questions about my bicycle and asked him if he could help me fix it. We came with a member and Elder Orellana and the member went inside and started to teach and we did division’s lol. I don’t know how but I stalled the man an Hour and a half while my companion taught a super powerful lesson that we prepared that included them praying on the spot...she and her grandson were baptized yesterday. We completed this family and now they are so so happy. It was a special baptism and all were crying. Mission impossible 1: completed

Jayson I got another guess for ya, spain lol I can see it.

Spiritual thought:

There once was a Young an who was the Son of his Japanese father who served in Japan. They were living in the United States and All his life this young man planned to serve a mission in Japan. Including he already knew how to read, write and talk in Japanese. When his call came he was super disappointed to find out that he was to go to Colombia. He went to Colombia unwillingly and wrote several time çs the General authorities saying he was in the wrong place. He continued through his mission as a comapion menor and didn’t learn a whole lot of Spanish. Finally he arrived at his last two changes and he found out he was to be a trainer. One day they were walking in the street and an old man started talking to the Elder in Japanese. The Elder talked with the man for almost two hours and then afterwards turned to his companion and told him that he taught this man lesson 1 and 2 and that they had a meeting with this man and his friends the next day and that he already knew about the Book of Mormon. When they passed the next day they found out that the man had 60 friends and all spoke Japanese and didn’t understand anything about English or Spanish. Before this man ended his mission he baptized all 60. After the baptisms they showed the young Elder the only Book of Mormon that they had had before and studied. He turned to the back and saw a short message that ended with the signature of his own father.

God knows what he is doing. Trust in the Lord with all your Heart and lean not unto thy own understanding!

Love,

Buenas Dias familia mia,

Good morning to all! Wow what a wonderful session of Conference this weekend. One thing that has proved to be amazing in the mission is the capacity that one has to learn. After watching every session including the special session for the YW (we had investigators) I was still left with energy and desires to keep learning and hearing more. I have never been so attentive and in to a session of General Conference like this one. I hope all were edified by the wonderful words of our apostles and our Prophet. I especially loved how every one of them was lead to talk about strengthening our families. In these times when people say that Satan is stronger and smarter than ever and that Satan is attacking the families I found it appropriate that we respond by strengthening ourselves and learning how to strengthen ourselves on our own and come closer to Christ.

A few business notes. I didn’t get any packages last week but I should get them this week I think. I will let you all know. Next week is changes and seeing as how I have been with Elder Orellana since the beginning of December we will probably see something there which means my internet time will be short and late. Mom I was thinking of a few things that you could send me for my b-day if you can. First I really liked it when you sent me that pancake mix!! Lol also my suits are old, dirty and ragged. if it’s not a problem I could accept a new suit.

So General Conference put me way homesick sometimes. Lol just memories of priesthood with Dad and Zack and the talks on good parents raising kids just gave me lots of great memories of home. Just wanted to thank you all for what you have done for me in that aspect. Lol I bet granddaddy went crazy when the Prophet said "Every action is preceded by a thought" lol good man. Also I would like to give a shout out to Sister Gage; one of The Prophets favorite scriptures also is Proverbs 3:5-6!

Ha Billings Montana!!!!!! Yeah that’s an awesome mission. Congrats Taylor! Did anyone call that one? Don’t think so...pootcha lol give it all you got man I know you will.

spiritual thought:

While the Savior was in his earthly ministry he taught us several things. Actually he taught us so many things that I would say it is impossible to study them all in one lifetime. But out of all of His wonderful teachings rings the most important one of all "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart might mind and strength" followed by the second "Love thy neighbor". In president Uctdorfs talk he tells the touching story about the statue of Christ that has no hands, no hands but ours. How true is that? We are his hands here in the world today, we are His disciples, and we made that covenant with Him when we were baptized with water and the Spirit. As His disciples and His hands we must serve him and our fellow man in ever way that we can. There is a saying here that is like this, "he who gives little, loves little". this does not mean that those that do not have much to give cannot have the capacity to love. In this statement, giving much refers to in proportion to what you have. And as members of Christ’s Church we have much. Spiritually speaking we have the keys to the Kingdom of heaven, the richest kingdom of all time if I may say so. As such we must stretch out and give all we can spiritually, we must bear our testimonies and share the gospels at all times possible. Remember that we can say that we love in several ways, songs poems, and any other fancy usage of words, but without acts it is as a tinkling symbol. Christ showed us the greatest act of Love possible to all of mankind, Let us "Love the Lord our God" by showing our neighbors we love them by sharing the wonderful news. Christ lives. His Church is here on the earth. through it we can be saved.

Love you all, have a good week!

03-29-2010

Hola Fam,

Wow there were tornadoes in HP! Man I am missing out on all the cool stuff there lol. First gigantic snow storms, then tornados! Well we were both without power this day. I don’t know why but Chile just likes to have random blackouts ever since earthquakes. It is actually really fun I think. lol I hope everyone is ok.

So this week has actually been really crazy for me too lol. It all started Thursday. We went to the doctors because Elder Orellana was not feeling good and I ended up having the doctor check up on my toenails also because I have had two ingrown toenails for about 3 months now including one is ingrown on both sides. lol he looked at them and decided that I needed surgery. Typical me always something injured. So after the surgery he told me it wouldn’t be a bad idea to rest for a day of two...ha ha well...uh....not a chance. Even though I waddled like a duck to all of our appointments, we went anyways. Anyways I walk normal now so all is good. Then Friday one of the Old people in the ward passed away. This old man was always so happy it made me a little sad to see him go. Then Saturday we had to attend his funeral so that was kinda lame lol. I don’t like funerals, they should be a lot happier, this man is now with God I don’t see what’s so sad. Anyways then yesterday we stopped by one of our investigators houses and it turns out that her boyfriend who is living there is always drunk and causing problems and the family is thinking about kicking him out! So we spent lots of time comforting them. So yeah this week has been crazytastic lol.

Also I wanted to say something else. All have been asking me what it is like to be in Chile in this moment, this is my reply: It’s a blessing, a privilege, it is very humbling, we are learning how to trust in the Lord and helping others do the same. We are learning to reach out, to lift up, to teach and testify of the healing powers of the Grace of God. I love this country and there is no other place I would rather be in on this earth. Being in Chile in this moment is the best thing I have ever experienced in my life.

Oh yeah, Taylor, your going to Chile Concepcion or Provo dude.

Oh yeah, mom the PMG achievement, lol out of 170 missionaries in the mission only half passed the test. lol it maid me feel good but then I had to repent cause that is called pride.

I will have to think for a week what I want for my b-day.

Matt keep killin it dude, Andrew, I know you will make the right decision, just follow your heart and the guidance of the Lord through prayer.

Tell Doby I said hi! I miss that man, taught me so much.

Duke is gay

Fitz I am praying for ya man, keep fightin

Koontz right me you lazy bum

meggs is gay and jazz is stupid

Love you all!

Hola que tal?

Lol this week was very productive. I have really seen the fruits of the spirit in myself and in the work. Unfortunately we did not see any baptisms this week because we baptized all the investigators we had lol and we are finding again. But man are we finding again. The Lord is really preparing people everyday.

I miss spring weather!!!! lol I am finding that there isn’t really a spring or fall here. They say that we are going to have two weeks of nice weather if we are lucky :(

I wish I could here dads talks to mom your not the only one lol. Thanks mom and dad for your wonderful examples in church service. It really has helped me a lot.

Zack...nooooooooooooo! lol the Fischer Curse! lol the freakin shoulder! ha ha which is it? Allie sounds like you are kicking butt just like always! Awesome.

ata boy fitzy! He will be running in no time.

Actually I am not building too many houses. We only help when the members can’t. Our job as missionaries is to find and teach and as long as the ward has sufficient priesthood to help. We don’t go that often but equally we have helped about once a week with houses and things. lol I have really learned how to redneck up a house lol. They wonder why their houses fall a que ver

Dad we take YM all the time on splits. It really helps them get excitement about serving...one has to plan a good day though and make it a good experience because if not it can have the opposite effect. But missionaries know what to do it so it’s all good. Actually one time I did see a YM at zone classes and I thought it was genius because there is a really awesome spirit of service and love in classes and it really motivates one for the work.

One big announcement...you should probably cancel my card because for some reasons that will not be stated I do not have it and for the moment I am without money. Lol but we were prepared and have food and back up money so wez be good.

Spiritual thought: "To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it. But we must sail, and not drift or lie at anchor."

3-15-2010

Hola all,

Hey everyone, this week has been awesome. Also a bit challenging. Elder Scow went into the city and two new missionaries are now living with us and they like to try to sleep in in the mornings. Lol it’s fun waking them up... also the work here is really picking up along with my desires to work. I tell you when you develop more love for the Lord your desire to do more soars above that what you can imagine. We are helping build up some houses and repaint some walls which is really fun. Last night almost all of Chile was without lights and I have no idea why. We thought that another really strong earthquake was going to come but nothing happened.

One thing in these times that I have really come to appreciate is everything I learned in scouts. We are discussing as a mission and zone what we need to do to be prepared and everything that I learned in scouts is coming into play. So thanks to all those who were with me in scouts!

We had another baptism this week. That’s 4 weeks in a row and it feels great. Mom details about the ONLY baptism in Chile the week of the Earthquake, we had to get up and fill the baptismal font at 4 in the morning because there was like no water pressure at all. But it was a special baptism because even though we could not leave Saturday to work, we called all the people necessary and pulled it off. It was cool.

One thing that is fun down here is that every Saturday I get to teach an English class. Ha ha it is hilarious I am not going to lie. But what is even funnier is that I only teach them to pray or the lessons from preach my gospel in English. Its only a matter of time till one of them is baptized...he he he!

Super fomi about the tourney Zack. It’s all good though. One thing that I am really learning here on the mission is that there are some things that we just can’t control and have to learn from and be patient in each of these experiences. For example, when you have someone obtain a testimony that the church is true and share it with you as they are crying and super excited for a baptism one day and then the day before their baptism tell you off...you learn how to deal. But its all good, I hear you represented the Fischer name well and dominated with your skills and the dew. lol

Allie, I hear you are just the little baller now. Congrats on the win! Keep up the good work!

Mom the mail is working so you can send that package when you want, actually I have a favor to ask, can you put in a little duck tape? Also some extra socks. And if it’s not too much one of those cheapy watches from Wal-Mart cause mine is dead practically and they are way expensive here.

Spiritual thought:

The purpose of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to make bad men become good, and good men become better through the Atonement of Christ the Lord. How do we do that? Well lets look a little at one of the famous stories in the Book of Mormon and on Faith.

Many times throughout Nephi’s life Laman and Lemuel were very rebellious and harsh towards their brother because he was more righteous than them. One time they even went as far as to tie him to a tree with strong cords. After much suffering and pain Nephi cries out unto the Lord, and says, according to my faith, Give me strength to bursts these bands. It is very important to know that he did not pray as an object to be acted upon, but rather as agent to act. Or, he prayed with the intention of acting upon his faith not with the intention to sit back and watch something happen. Then, with his faith in the Lord and through the Atonement, The Lord gave him the strength so he could act and he burst these strong bands. My message today is that we can all find the strength we need through the Atonement of the Lord and the faith to be willing to act.

Love you all, you are always in my prayers and thank you for all the prayers that I have felt.

Please continue, Chile needs it.

3/01/2010 Story of the Earthquake

Hola fam,

Lol ok so I pretty much just had some of the most scary and spiritual experiences of my life

3:00 Saturday morning I woke up and the earth was shaking its pants off. I am not going to lie living through an earthquake with the power of an 8.8 is not exactly a fun experience, although it seemed it would be at first. It started really slow actually. So we got up and stood in the doorway and turned the lights on so we could see. Then the earth shook more and more viciously. The building started hopping, the earth roaring like an angry dragon as the floor starts moving like the waves of the ocean in the middle of a stormy sea. Glass hits the ground and shatters next to your feet and then the worst thing happens - the lights go out. Now you are stuck in the most terrifying experience of your life but then you calm down and realize something, you are a servant of the Lord. Slowly the noise quiets, the building doesn’t seem to sway so much and the floor doesn’t seem to bump so much. You are reminded of the Saviors love for you and you just know everything will be ok. You stop worrying about yourself as your thoughts turn to others. Earthquakes are not so bad if you are wearing the Armor and especially the mantle of Christ.

Lol sorry Mom I didn’t see any angels but one thing that was pretty cool is that I absolutely knew something was going to happen for two days before and when the earthquake came I was already awake sitting in my bed waiting for something. The Lord Blesses and guides His servants. It’s pretty sweet to be able to say I lived through the worst ever earth quake in the history of Chile! And 5th worst in history of history! I can only imagine what it was like when Christ died. I will be doing a lot of service hear in these coming months I feel lol.

Anyways, we are still without lights in our apartment but it’s all good. The only thing that is really really frustrating is that we were not allowed to leave our house all day Saturday to work and we have to be in the house every day at 8 instead of 10. That just rally frustrates the crap out of me. But I will go on.

Anyways, since we don’t have much time I think w are going to go work instead of chillin today. That is if I can convince my companions, which I think I can. I got all those missionary tricks now. he he

Also one more thing, we were supposed to have changes today but we didn’t seeing that everything is destroyed. So we could have changes any day now just so you know mom.

I received my package from Edye and Mom the other week! Thanks so much! I must admit candy from the United states is like heaven lol.

Love you all!

News from Chile after Earthquake

Hola to our friends and family,

We have had many phone calls today and appreciate your thoughtfulness and concern. We have not yet personally heard from Weston or his mission president however the church has recently made an official statement that I have posted below. His mission president also just posted the below letter on the mission blogspot. I thought you might enjoy hearing what they had to say.

Again thank you and please continue to pray for all the missionaries and the people of Chile,

Stacey

>SALT LAKE CITY 27 February 2010 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement today following the devasting earthquake in Chile:
"We, along with the rest of the world, are watching with concern as reports from the massive earthquake in Chile continue to unfold. As with any disaster, immediate details are difficult to confirm. Here is what we know so far:
"Eight of the Church’s nine Chilean mission presidents have checked in and are reporting all missionaries are safe and accounted for. We are still trying to reach the mission president in the Concepción South Mission, which is closest to the epicenter and two missionaries on the Juan Fernandez Islands off the coast of Chile. We will provide more information as it becomes available."

Chile Santiago North Mission

Dear Friends, Family, loved ones and parents of our dear missionaries of the Chile Santiago North Mission,

We know that many of you are often on the mission blog, so we decided to post our latest news as we have it currently:

Thank you for your love and concern on behalf of all the great people here in Chile. We especially appreciate your prayers for the welfare of your wonderful missionaries you have entrusted here to serve the Lord. We want you to know that all of our missionaries on the continent in our Chile Santiago North Mission are accounted for as of this moment. They are full of faith, happy and surprisingly so optimistic that it touches us to hear their wonderful outlook. We had one slight injury with an Elder, and he is happily here in the mission home doing fine, with his companion, where we can actually keep an eye on him! We are hearing of many miracles where we know they were protected by angels.

Now finally, after trying all day, just spoke to the Rundquists, our senior couple we have serving on Easter Island, and they too are fine. They are bringing our small flock of the branch for an evening of FHE/activity, to their apartment that is situated up on one of the highest hills. They are trying to gear up and be prepared for the possibility of the coming tsunami there. They too are cheerful and encouraged; glad they had recently been grocery shopping and happy that they can help the other members be safe too. What great examples to us!

However, our hearts are filled with prayers and concern for our last two, fine Elders we have presently serving on the Isla Juan Fernandez/Robinson Crusoe Island whom we haven’t heard from yet. There has only been spotty information rec’d here in Santiago regarding the status of all on the island, after the tsunami has already hit there. We don’t know the condition or status of our dear Elder Mitchell and Elder Marin at this time. Please, continue to pour out your hearts in prayer for their safety, well-being and protection at this time. We know that the Lord is mindful of them, and He loves His missionaries, so we are full of faith and hope and have asked our missionaries to continue to pray for them by name.

Our daughter Sarah, who is with us here in Santiago, is fine, as is our son, Elder Gregory May, who is serving in Chile Concepcion Mission (epicenter of the earthquake) , along with all of the missionaries accounted for in his mission too, thankfully. We have been in constant communication with Salt Lake City, and then trying to reach and receive calls from our dear missionaries, so forgive us for not calling back, answering email, and responding individually. We have had quite a bit of experience in our lives with earthquakes, living in So. California, including the devastating challenge of having our home in Valencia destroyed in the 1994 Northridge quake. Preparing to deliver our daughter, Sarah, now 16, that very morning, we learned so much through that experience that we are seeing come into play in this time in Chile. We know that the Lord is so aware and instead of trying to hustle our four small sons out of the way of the breaking glass, swinging chandeliers, crashing bookcases like we did in 1994, we now are thrilled to hear that our 170 ‘mighty Elders and Hermanas” are also safe and moving forward with faith wherever they are. They have been contacting each other, lovingly checking on the sisters, walking to each others apartments, helping with some of the clean up, etc. What incredible young people these are and we love them dearly. We see the Lord’s hand in these miracles.

Please pray for the people here in Chile, and especially our Elders Mitchell and Marin. May you parents know how we cherish and love your dear missionaries.
Con amor y cariño,
Presidente y Hermana Michael May

Family,

This week was awesome. We baptized 2 young women. One is named Elisabeth and the other Macarena (like the song) they had an amazing conversion. Maca read the entire BOM before her baptism and only has 15 years of age. During the baptism service she was crying and it was really special. I felt the Lord pour out his blessings on me and I felt his love. It is amazing as I strive more and more to serve the Lord, I only find him serving me.

Wow mom 2 weeks away from home, que fomi lol. No jk. Sounds like you have had a good time. I was thinking I would love something from the book store there because I love reading about church doctrine and learning and things like that...but I would need to look around. I don’t know any of the books or anything. But you could look around at writings of the prophets and stuff and buy me something. Especially if there are some teachings of Joseph Smith or something like that there. I love reading of him.

I can’t believe my sobrina(niece) has two weeks! lol how is Madi doing? Also how are Britt and Bruce? Oh man someone just brought in some fries and they smell good I want some...anyways, lol funny story: so we were walking in a "ghetto" area and we past by a woman and she said a word that is like slang for hottie or something like that and I was with Elder Scow and he thought she just said hola so he said hola back. lol so then she said something else that was a question that leads to action and Elder scow was about to say something but I just told her no gracias and we went on. lol he was hitting on her and didn’t know it and I pretty much saved him. It was so funny and awkward though. Anyways I am going to get to my spiritual thought so I can send photos.

So I was thinking this week about studying the scriptures. We all know we should and that there are ways to study them and that all are good. But I started to think about what has helped me and what ways really help us "feast upon the words of Christ” One method is to read the scriptures all the way through. This helps you understand the spirit a little and understand the story. Also you can study by topic, such as what is faith in the Savior, why is it the first principle of the Gospel, why and how does faith in the Redeemer lead to repentance, and how does the atonement strengthen me to do things in life that I never thought I could do? This is also very effective and gives more room for the spirit to enter in your heart and teach you. Then we have the third method and the most powerful method. This is to look for connections, patterns, and themes in the scriptures. For example – themes, I chose to look at the theme of the Book of Mormon and also all of the parables of Jesus Christ. In every story and prophecy has the message of come unto Christ. For example, the vision of Lehi, the tree of life in his vision is the central feature in the dream and is a representation of Jesus Christ. Now let’s take this same story and apply it to scripture study. We see that there are three groups in the story. The first group encountered the mist of darkness and fell away and let go of the Iron Rod. The Iron Rod is the word of God or the scriptures. The second groups of people were clinging to the Rod of Iron. They were clinging to the scriptures, reading, having faith and were doing good things, but they too fell away into temptation. Notice the statement "clinging to the rod” this must mean that they occasionally read their scriptures and occasionally went to church. Then we read about the third group. They "continually held fast" to the rod. They continually read their scriptures and continually went to church and said their prayers and they partook of the fruit and were saved and arrived at Jesus Christ.

My loved ones reading this right now, just like every scripture there is, I invite all of you to come unto Christ by receiving his restored Gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, repentance, baptism (if you haven’t already) receive the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end by studying the scriptures every day and going to church and praying. I promise you all that this is the only way to find true happiness. Because the happiness in the gospel is described as a joy and is a never ending happiness.

Love you all

What’s up fam?!

Ok so this week has been pretty sweet. We have been working our butts off so that’s always good. We finally have lots of investigators to teach and for this we are really enjoying ourselves here in Los Andes. It really is true what you said Elder Street, there is no joy greater in the Work than the actual work.

Today we had to bring Elder Dunshee to the Office because he has officially completed his mission and is going home. It was really sad. I really love that guy. But we will definately hook up some day. He is going to be a famous music artist so I can just mooch off his money and I won’t have to work lol.

Lets see, what happened that was interesting this week...well lets see we were on the metro today and this couple totally just started making out right next to us and it was funny cause me Elder Scow and Elder Dunshee just looked at each other and said out loud in English "get a room". lol they didn’t understand so it was all good. It was more of a reaction. Also yesterday we climbed up a hill to have a testimony meeting with our investigators that are going to get baptized this coming week. It was way way spiritual and Chile is way way beautiful. I have pics.

Street you’re the man dude, I can’t believe you are coming to the finish line, or third base however you want to look at it. Keep it up and keep it strong man. You’re a great example

spiritual thought,

So I was reading about my favorite prophet ever the other day in the Book of Mormon. I was reading about Nephi and the story of how he broke his bow. it is amazing to me as we see his whole family complaining. including his own father who is the prophet and patriarch of the family at the time. I was thinking while I was reading, what would I do? then I read what he did do. we read in verse 23 what he did do. First he did all he could and did his part and made a bow and arrow. then he inquired of the Lord. What I learned of this is that whenever we are passing through trials and difficult times in life first we have to try our best to fix them. we have to prepare ourselves to receive an answer from God then we may humbly go before him to ask for his guidance. then if we have humbly prepared and done everything we can and are truly willing to act we will receive what we need of the Lord. Nephi went up to the mountain and slew many many beasts. So when others complain or doubt, inquire of the Lord and go About it.

Love you all

Fam,

Wow congrats Bruce n Britt! ha ha oh man I cant believe it! Seriously
I am like going crazy right now. Its kinda not fare that I can’t see my
niece but I know I am where I should be. She is a tiny little girl. I
can already tell she will have the Fischer good looks lol

Jayson...in a relationship...ha ha oh man. hit me up with an email
dude. Y tambien, cuidado!

This week we saw miracles here in Los Andes. We passed by and had
probably one of the most spiritual lessons of my life with a 15-year-old
girl. Then she read almost all of the Book of Mormon and bore her
testimony in church that she knew it was true. Her name is Macarena so
when we got back to the house we broke into a dance lol. I am sure you
can imagine.

But this is the thing. We did nothing. As missionaries we did nothing
for this girl, we showed up and she was already ready and accepting.
Something that I have really come to find on my mission is that the more
I find myself trying to serve Him (Christ), I only find Him serving me. I am
truly grateful for my savior Jesus Christ and for all He did, does, and
will do for me. I see His influence in my life everyday. I don’t think
we will ever be able to see all of the wonderful tender mercies that He
gives us. It makes sense after all, He tells us to serve in secret, we
all know He leads and teaches by example. God loves us infinitely and
individually. All my love and prayers to Britt and Bruce and little
Madi. May the grace of God be with you all,

Love Elder Fischer

News From Elder Fischer

01/25/2010

Sorry I don’t have time to write a real letter today because these computers slow and I have to be going soon.

The work is going well. Don’t worry I will definitely talk about baptisms when they come. We are going to have 2 in two weeks. It’s a little different here in Chile cause they have to go to church 3 times and things like that.

Sooooo I haven’t bought a camera yet because there is not any money on my account. Also I went to the doctors this week, well Elder Dunshee made me, cause I got two bad ingrown toenails that I am dealing with. Don’t worry they are getting better cause I am pretty much a pro. lol I didn’t want to go in and waste a day but Elder Dunshee convinced me that it was better for the work in the long run. The only bad thing is I had to buy meds and now I have to buy new exercise shoes. They said that was one of the main reasons - cause my shoes are way to narrow at the end for my feet. So I will need money for those as well. I guess this is going to be the "money times" of my mission.

Love you all!

About the work:

Ok so it’s not so much a story as it is a revelation that I figured out about my service here in this ward. There is no youth program in this ward because there are no youth. Not one. So out of all my baptisms all except one is a teenager. I guess I just relate to them well. Right now we are teaching a lot of youth and 2 are going to be baptized si o si in two weeks with many more to follow. It just feels really good to see that I really am helping this area grow.

Thank you all for your letters! I will respond next week!

This week has been good. We have a few people that are progressing towards baptism. This Area President told me is one of the hardest time of year because everyone has money and everyone goes on vacations and we have really seen that. lol there were barely more than 50 people in sacrament meeting this Sunday and the average attendance is 115. lol but its all good. You know we be baptizin!

lol mom you are crazy if you thought I was going to stay off my ingrown toenails for anytime whatsoever. They are improving but I got some work to do lol. I bought my camera. I am going to buy the shoes today I think. I don’t know how much I have on my account for them though I will see today.

Yes we celebrate Valentines day in Chile! lol I don’t really know what they do but all I know is I will be working lol. Yeah I got you Dear Elder package. lol I got it 1 week before Christmas with all my thanksgiving food. lol it was funny. No problem though.

Good to hear Fitz is improving. Sometimes I wish I was there to do a little missionary work with his family and friends. I really hope and pray everything will workout for him.

I am so jealous of the snow! What is this? I leave and all of a sudden it starts snowing! lol it makes me think of snowball fights and stuff. Especially since it’s so freaking hot!

Thought:

The average runner sprints
Until the breath in him is gone,
But the champion has the iron will,
That makes him carry on.

For rest, the average runner begs,
When limp his muscles grow,
But the champion runs on lean legs
His spirit makes him go.

The average mans complacent
When he does his best to score,
But the champion does his best
And then he does a little more.

Keep it real, love you all. Remember we are all children of our Heavenly Father and He loves us so very much. He loves us so much that He is willing to help us out in our lives. All we have to do is ask and try our best, and then, when we have done all we can, He gives us the strength to "do a little more".

What’s up peeps,

hey to all. this week has been a really good one for me. sounds like you all have had a really good week too. Last night as we were waiting for the call to say we didn’t have changes we listened to some pretty spiritual songs that got me thinking, I was sitting there and looking at all the photos of my family and friends and I got this overwhelming feeling of love for you all. but it wasn’t a homesick feeling, it was a "man I cannot wait till we are all together in the celestial kingdom together forever in a state of never ending happiness (Mosiah 2:41).

anyways it’s good to hear that fitz is doing better. sucks that the tarheels can’t win a freaking basketball game! lol sounds like Allie is gaining that Fischer love for basketball. Britt is about ready to pop! lol wow I cant believe it. I still remember when she and Bruce maid the announcement at the beach last year.

Chile now has a new President. Piñera is his name. all I know is that he copied Obama in two ways. his slogan was one of change and he supports gays...gay.

Funny story - so we were talking to these two drunk dudes the other day and one was trying to talk all religious and stuff. it was actually kinda sad but I proposed two questions to him. the first was "si jesucristo estuviera al lado de usted, usted tomaria?" (if Jesus Christ was standing right nest to you right now, would you be drinking?) he said but of course no. then I said "entonces, porque toma ahora?" (then why do you drink now?) lol he looked like he had just pooped his pants then he went off laughing with his drunk friends. it was pretty funny.

Spiritual thought:

so I was reading a little about the definition of sheep. the bible dictionary says that they are very loyal to their master and something else very interesting that they are super good at recognizing the voice of their master. Christ is our master. just as a shepherd has gone head over heels to help us and save us. He has done more than enough to earn our trust and loyalty. he has not asked us much. repent and be baptized and come unto him as a little child and obey his commandments until the end. if we do we shall be held as precious treasures unto him (somewhere in exodus lol) I wish to exhort you with all my heart to come closer unto the master. we are his sheep and he is our Sheppard. If we are loyal and obedient to the master we when we recognize his voice at the last day it will be in the morning of the first resurrection and we will live with God Jesus Christ and our families as treasures of God in a state of never ending happiness. I Love you all and forever will be praying for you.

Hola fam,

This week has been really good. full of wonderful spiritual experiences and good memories of which I will get to a little later.

First, they didn’t lie when they said that Los Andes was the hottest part of Chile. It’s been over 100 degrees every day here and we are in the beginning of summer.

Anyways I have been studying a little about the Armor of God this week. It is actually really fun to study out every single piece of armor in detail. For example it says to have your feet shod with preparation of the Gospel of piece. Jesus Christ is the Price of peace and this is his Gospel. When soldiers shod their feet with armor they do it so that they can walk into whatever battle shielded from whatever might impede their path. If we shield ourselves with the Gospel of Jesus Christ We will be able to walk through whatever challenge or temptation Satan puts before our path.

Cool Story:

Ok so yesterday we were a little frustrated for the lack of investigators in church. Before we left the apartment we made a promise with the Lord that we would not return to the house until we found someone that was ready to hear the Gospel. We left and didn’t have a lot of time scheduled to find people because we were teaching a lot but we started knocking doors and the 4th house we knocked we put someone with a baptismal date. But there is more to the story. we were walking down the street and my companion asked me were we should start (we should have already planned that but oh well) so we said a prayer and I waited and said lets go to these apartments over there. So we did and we found Alba. Something that I am really coming to learn is that the spirit carries the messages to our hearts, but we have to let it in. Sometimes we receive revelation and doubt if it really is what we think. If we don’t have the faith to let in the revelation and believe it to be revelation, we will never reach what we truly can reach.

love you all and send you all my love,

01/04/2010

Hola from Chile,

Hey fam, this week has been slow actually work wise. Everyone is out on the streets partying and drinking but it is starting to get better now. Lol new years was fun, we stayed up till 12 and made ourselves dinner...lol

Today has been a fun p-day. We woke up early and took the bus an hour and a half to see this big lake with lots of trout! This has got dad excited I am sure. Only thing is it wasn’t a big lake, more like lots of little ponds. But it was still cool because there were so many that they swam close to the edge and I leaned over and picked one up with my hands! Lol it was sweet! Kinda creepy too so I dropped it real fast.

Anyways for mom and pops, update on the companion. Don’t worry about it, I got this. Lol he’s not that bad. We have been without the bikes this week and it has been a blessing cause between walking 40 minutes to each appointment we have talked a lot. His problem is that he is not here because he loves his Savior he is here because he is supposed to be and wants to make his family proud. So we have been building his faith there. Also he is satisfied with not baptizing. He says he is just a "planting seeds missionary"...yeah that doesn’t really fly with me. Lol I told him straight up I was here to baptize. But really don’t worry about it we found some really good new people this week. For new years we had an actividad. We went to Colina and played football americano for 3 hours! So so fun! But I ran the whole time! And I could barely walk the next day lol.

I don’t have like a really funny story this week but I do have a funny note about Chile. Lots of Chileans walk around with American shirts on but don’t know what they mean. They walk around with shirts that say I'm ugly or you will see a big muscle guy with a world’s greatest aunt shirt on. Lol so it’s always fun to see that.

Ok spiritual thought.

Today I want to talk about who we all really are. I wish for you all to never forget that we are all Children of God and as such are entitled to his throne. Think about it, God is the King of this Kingdom, and we are his children (princes and princesses) and as such we will one day "inherit all the father has" for "as man is, God once was, as God is now, Man may become"

In Moses 1:12 we read:

12 And it came to pass that when Moses had said these words, behold, Satan came tempting him, saying: Moses, son of man, worship me.

We see Satan’s attempt to attack Moses understanding of his divine relationship as a son of God in order to tempt him. Satan refers to Moses as “son of man”. It is one of Satan’s greatest tools he uses on all of us to cause us to question our own divine nature as sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. He seems to use this particular tool in some of our most difficult moments. If he can cause us just for a second to forget who we are and what is our purpose, he may have a greater chance for us to be disobedient to a commandment, not be as diligent as we can be or even begin to chip away at our faith in Jesus Christ.

Moses is quick to discern what Satan is trying to do. He responds with both powerful questions and declarations that both expose Satan for who he is and who he is not. We read in verses 13-15:

13 And it came to pass that Moses looked upon Satan and said: Who art thou? For behold, I am a son of God, in the similitude of his Only Begotten; and where is thy glory, that I should worship thee?

14 For behold, I could not look upon God, except his glory should come upon me, and I were transfigured before him. But I can look upon thee in the natural man. Is it not so, surely?

15 Blessed be the name of my God, for his Spirit hath not altogether withdrawn from me, or else where is thy glory, for it is darkness unto me? And I can judge between thee and God; for God said unto me: Worship God, for him only shalt thou serve.

Moses declares who he is and expresses powerfully his relationship with his Heavenly Father. He remembers what he has been taught by his Heavenly Father:

16 Get thee hence, Satan; deceive me not; for God said unto me: Thou art after the similitude of mine Only Begotten.

Let us be strong in moments of temptation by being “quick to remember” that we are sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father who always stands by us.

Love you all! Till next week!
